Earlier this year, Chase Owens & Great-O-Khan got familiar. They would trade the IWGP Tag Team Championships, and even meet in a singles match. Tonight, they meet in the G1 Climax – with Great-O-Khan starting his tournament, and Great-O-Khan will want to get on the board early, especially with such a winnable match.
However, Owens showed what happened when you overlook him last year, when he defeated Hiroshi Tanahashi himself with the package piledriver. That’s how good he can be – but that was the best night of his career.
Chase Owens Isn’t Against Some Dirty Tactics
Owens started fast with a fistful of powder to the eyes of Great-O-Khan, getting him before the bell. A neckbreaker would land, getting Owens a two count. Great-O-Khan was blinded and swinging wildly, before Owens caught him with a Northern Lights Suplex. Owens kept the pressure on with some stomps, before whipping Great-O-Khan into the corner.
Some heavy strikes would follow, with Great-O-Khan down on the ropes and being choked out. We’d see Owens go after the leg of Great-O-Khan, with a leg snap. Great-O-Khan was back to being able to see, but would have issues getting into the fight.
Owens would go for a suplex, but was countered. Great-O-Khan would hit some Mongolian Chops in the corner, before hanging him in the tree of woe, nailing the sliding dropkick between the eyes. Pump kick would follow, and Great-O-Khan would get a two count.
Great-O-Khan Proves His Skills
Great-O-Khan would nail some forearm smashes, before being sent into the corner. Owens would be sent to the apron, but an enziguri and slingshot codebreaker would soon follow. Great-O-Khan took a lariat in the middle of the ring, but would kick out at two.
Owens would get taken to the floor, and slammed face first off the apron – getting Great-O-Khan a two count in the ring. Elminiator was blocked into a roll up, but Owens would counter into a roll up – with his feet on the ropes. He’d be caught in the act, and Owens would have to try and win more honestly.
A sunset bomb into the corner would follow, before C-Trigger was blocked. Sheep Killer was applied, before a backbreaker. Right back into the submission was Owens, before the Tenzan Tombstone Piledriver for a two count. Owens would hotshot Great-O-Khan along the ropes before the C-Trigger & Package Piledriver for the win.
