During AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, we’d see the crowning of a new champion with the AEW All-Atlantic Championship. We’d see a tournament to set up a Fatal Four Way match, which would see PAC defeat Malakai Black, Miro and NJPW’s Clark Connors to win the belt for the first time. He’s not appeared on AEW programming since, due to him going back to the UK – but that is where his first defense will happen.
PAC To Defend AEW All-Atlantic Championship In Another Promotion
RevPro has announced that PAC will return to the promotion to defend the title against Shota Umino on July 10 in Sheffield. He last wrestled for the promotion in 2019, as he’s been dedicated to AEW from 2020 onward. Now, he will be defending an AEW Championship in the promotion, a first time deal.
Shota Umino was also on the card at Forbidden Door, competing in the opening match of the main card alongside Wheeler Yuta & Eddie Kingston. They faced the trio of Chris Jericho, Minoru Suzuki & Sammy Guevara – albeit in a losing effort. Umino is also linked to Jon Moxley, who was a mentor of his during their time together in NJPW.
A More Globally Defended Championship?
This also gives an idea of what we can expect from this new championship. Some fans were sceptical about AEW adding yet another singles title to the mix for the men on the roster, but a title that gets defended in smaller promotions around the world is an interesting idea.
It’s possible it will function similarly to the SWA Championship in Stardom, where the champion exclusively defends against people from different countries than them. The tournament and Fatal Four Way put extra emphasis on the countries of each performer, a possible hint towards the gimmick of this belt.
It really can help to lead to some unique matchups, and would help the belt stand out when placed next to the TNT Championship. Who do you want to see challenge PAC for this championship? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
