Tetsuya Naito Was Not Invited To AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door

Despite being a great PPV, there was a lot of missed potential with the joint supershow between AEW & NJPW – Forbidden Door. The card was nearly torn apart due to injuries, with the likes of Tomohiro Ishii, CM Punk, and Bryan Danielson unable to make the show. Political issues kept the likes of Andrade El Idolo, Rey Fenix and Penta Oscuro off the card as well. However, the leader of the Los Ingobernables De Japón faction, Tetsuya Naito? He simply wasn’t invited.

Tetsuya Naito Is Upset He Was Never Considered For Forbidden Door

During an entry onto the Team NJPW USA members only “NJPW Diary” section, Naito would explain why he was not present on the card for Forbidden Door. He was not invited, and would say the following.

“Unfortunately I was not invited to the “AEW x NJPW” show that is being talked about all over the place. Not invited = not needed. Right? Because of that frustration, I haven’t watched any footage of this show. I’m genuinely upset about it.”

Many originally thought that Naito was left off the card due to wanting to keep him healthy with the G1 Climax so near in the calendar. However, if he was not considered for the card? That was an oversight by both companies. Naito has proven to be a popular name all around the world, and is one of the most popular wrestlers in Japan right now.

A Big L.I.J Tag Team Clash Would Have Been Amazing On Forbidden Door

Shingo Takagi would be the only member of the Los Ingobernables De Japón to make the show, with Hiromu Takahashi also intended to be on the card. Hiromu would unfortunately miss the show due to a high fever however. Having Naito booked on the card would have brought down some of the complaints of a lack of stars on the show, which was a common issue before the show started.

If we get another Forbidden Door event, having the full ranks of Los Ingobernables De Japon in a 10 man tag team match would be an excellent add to the show. Putting them against a group like Blackpool Combat Club would result in an excellent match – and would ensure Naito gets a spot on the card.

Where would you have placed Naito on the card of Forbidden Door? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.

A wrestling fan practically since birth, who has been hooked since he got his first toy wrestling ring for Christmas as a child. Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
