Right now, the rise of Wardlow in AEW has been one of the best storylines in professional wrestling. 2022 has been his year, winning the Face of the Revolution ladder match, defeating MJF to free himself from a rotten contract, and last week winning the ff. His victory over Scorpio Sky to win his first singles championship in AEW was huge, and he was able to stay calm and collected during this win thanks to Cash Wheeler.
Wardlow Made Sure He Enjoyed The Moment
While speaking on Busted Open Radio, Wardlow had a chance to thank Cash Wheeler of FTR for a pep talk before hitting the ring. Wardlow was quoted saying the following.
“Honestly, I’m normally extremely nervous and on edge and focused, just tunnel vision type focus. Before the match, I was actually much more calm than usual. I don’t know why. Cash Wheeler gave me a pretty nice pep talk right before. That might have helped calm my nerves. Cash and Dax Harwood are always helping me out, those guys are phenomenal. I think Cash got in my head a little and reminded me to breathe and have fun and enjoy the moment and absorb it. ‘Tonight could be one of those nights that you want remember forever so make sure you absorb it so you can remember it.’ I tried to do that and I feel I did do that.”
First Title Defence Comes On Wednesday
Wardlow won’t have long to enjoy his title win however. He’s booked to defend tomorrow against the red hot Orange Cassidy. This is the return of the open challenge format for the championship, and fans weren’t expecting such a large challenge for Wardlow just one week into his reign.
Wardlow Reveals Who In AEW Offered Advice Before TNT Championship Victory
It’s also a great test of how popular Wardlow truly is, as Orange Cassidy regularly gets the biggest reactions of any given AEW event. No doubt, they will put on a fantastic match, and Wardlow might become the shortest reigning champion in the belts history if he’s not cancel.
