HOOK holding the FTW Championship simply feels right, being a title brought into the industry by his father. He took the belt from Ricky Starks, his former Team Taz ally – and now looks to keep the open challenge approach alive. Enter Zack Clayton, the former Jersey Shore star turned professional wrestler. He intends to show that he’s the fastest rising star in AEW, and hand HOOK his first AEW loss here tonight.
HOOK Taps Out Zack Clayton In Seconds, 2point0 Want The Next Shot
HOOK was outclassed in size with Clayton, but he’d apply Redrum instantly – and this one was over as quick as it began. The bigger you are, the harder you fall. HOOK doesn’t get paid by the hour, and he remains the FTW Champion – and he might never be separated from that belt.
Matt Menard & Angelo Parker would call out HOOK after this match, and had their eyes on the legacy of the FTW Championship. It’s been held by some great wrestlers no doubt, but never a great Sports Entertainer. Chris Jericho would be glad to have some gold enter the Jericho Appreciation Society, and either Menard or Parker could prove to be more dangerous than Clayton.
House Of Black Has A Miro Problem
Due to HOOK ripping through Clayton so fast, and Tony Khan knowing what HOOK can do – a standby match was set up. Buddy Matthews of The House of Black would hit the ring with Julia Hart by his side, and with a singles match waiting for him.
Serpentico would be chosen as the opponent… and crushed with a shotgun dropkick as the bell rang. Matthews noticed that he’d roll from the ring, before nailing a PK – and running Serpentico into the barricade. Knee to the face and Whale Hunt in the ring, and Matthews claims his eighth AEW win – and just another glimpse of what he can do.
The horns of Miro would hit, and he’d hit the ramp with the mask of Malakai Black in hand. Apparently having taken him out backstage, Miro would take his aim at Matthews, and was only briefly allured by Julia Hart. Matthews would take some heavy blows in the ring, and Miro called for the Pagans to come stop him – as he kicked Matthews from the ring.
Athena Claims Another AEW Win
Penelope Ford has been on the AEW injured list for a long time now – but returned the ring recently on AEW Dark. Tonight, she’s thrust right back into the title hunt, as she’s taking on a top contender for the TBS Championship in Athena. Should Ford claim the win here tonight, she might well be the one getting the next shot at Jade Cargill – which would be an excellent way to get back into the mix in AEW.
Athena is ranked #3 coming to the ring tonight – putting her very close to a potential title shot. Ford would grab a headlock, before being shoved off. Athena would hit the jumping knee strike, before looking for a German Suplex. Ford broke free and sent Athena throat first into the ropes, and Kip Sabian was at ringside cheering her on from under his box.
Athena would be getting overwhelmed, with Ford having not missed a step in the ring. She’d be licked in the corner, before she got kicked. Athena threw a lariat, and Ford would matrix dodge before a stunner. This one spilled to the floor, and Athena would gain control, before nailing the O-Face in the ring for the victory.
