Conor McGregor NOT Amongst The Top 10 Highest Paid Athletes Anymore

The Notorious Conor McGregor is not amongst the 10 top paid athletes anymore. We are used to seeing the Irishman on the top of the list, but this year things have changed. After 12 months, he makes a significant drop of more than 10 places on the list.

He tops the list last year, with a total income of more than $170 million, however, this year he must satisfy himself with a pitiful $32 million.

The Notorious has not been in a fight for a year-long period now. That is since Dustin Poirier breaks his leg at the UFC 264. A year is passing and Conor is still recovering from the injury. His next bout might happen this summer, however, as Dana White states, he will not be back in the octagon until the doctors give an absolute green light on his abilities to sustain shots.

His earnings took a massive drop exactly because of this. Being inactive in the sport takes a great toll on the Irishman. However, his return to the octagon is sure. Sooner, more than later he will be back. And when he is back, the money will start flowing once more.

Currently, on the list, the only fighter is Canelo Alvarez, with an income of $80 million. No other fighter, from any combat sport, manages to make the list. Lionel Messi is topping the list at the moment and is keeping the first place seat warm for the Notorious’s comeback.

Even though the majority of the funds on his account come from the UFC, he is not short of income from other places as well. Places like advertisements, videos, and most importantly, the Notorious’s Proper Whiskey 12 brand.

After one year ‘on the bench’ Conor is ready to come back and gain some place on the list. Most probably he will still not be back for the UFC 276, following in July this year, however, he might take place in a fight couple of months afterward, at some event in the autumn.

“He’s not back until the autumn – if everything goes right. So a lot of the match-ups will play out this summer. Whoever wins or loses, when Conor will have a pass by a doctor and will be ready to go, we’ll figure out who’s next.” – Dana White says.

The Notorious is back in the ring sparring at the moment. He trains for size and strength at the moment and it is still unpredictable when exactly he will be back. Finally, we are speaking about the Notorious Conor McGregor. He might switch opinions in a matter of seconds. The UFC will never be in the clear with him.

When he comes back, most probably Dana White will arrange a revenge fight against Dustin Poirier. Only after that, if he comes out victorious he might be given the title shot he so much desires.
