We’re just a few days away from the next big All Elite Wrestling PPV event this year, with All Out nearly having it’s full card set up – with two episodes of TV between us and the major event. However, one match that fans wanted to see will not be happening, despite it seeming a few months ago that this event could have been main evented by FTR vs. The Young Bucks – that ended up not being the direction AEW went, even confusing FTR themselves.
FTR Expected Their Third Match With The Young Bucks At All Out
While speaking with GiveMeSport, Cash Wheeler would have a chance to speak about their match at All Out – and the direction they expected AEW to go. He’d be quoted saying the following.
“Personally, I’m very happy with the match on Sunday that we’re going to have, but I thought that was the direction to go, us vs. The Young Bucks for all the marbles. The way things lined up, kind of naturally, there was no plan in place. A lot of things happened that changed the title scene. our babyface turn wasn’t something we thought about or planned that happened. We were riding the wave with it and figuring out as we go.
The fact that it was kind of culminating at the same time and leading to what I thought would have been the perfect build to it, all these outsides forces kind of setting it up, I would have loved that and it would have been a huge money match as far as tag team wrestling goes, whatever you consider a money match for tag team wrestling these days.
I understand there are a lot of injuries that happened and a lot of moving parts in the wrestling business. It’s not easy getting everything to go. We weren’t told far out that it wasn’t happening. I wish everything could’ve worked out the way we envisioned, but I’m excited for how Sunday is set up and the potential for what it leads to after with Motor City.”
AEW Had The Biggest Tag Match Of The Decade Set Up, And Let It Go
Prior to The Young Bucks losing the AEW World Tag Team Championships to Swerve In Our Glory – there was the chance of having the third FTR vs. Young Bucks match being for all the major non-WWE tag team championships. FTR still holds the ROH, IWGP & AAA Tag Team Championships – and them going after their biggest rivals of The Young Bucks to add the AEW Tag Team Championships to that pile would have been perfect and logical storytelling.
However, the AEW World Trios Championship seemingly took precedent – with Kenny Omega able to return to the ring. Tonight with AEW Dynamite, Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks are set to face Will Ospreay & Aussie Open – with the winners making the finals at All Out this Sunday. FTR meanwhile will team with former Pinnacle member and TNT Champion Wardlow to face Jay Lethal and the Motor City Machine Guns.
