We’re coming up on the final stages of development with the first big budget AEW video game – titled AEW: Fight Forever. During Gamescon, we’d see a full singles match from the game, with fans really now noticing how much it will play like the peak of wrestling games in the N64 era. However, while the game is looking promising – one key act in AEW is seemingly not going to be playable.
FTR Were Unhappy To Learn They Were Removed From AEW: Fight Forever
A report from Fightful Select would indicate that one of AEW’s top tag teams will not be included in the games roster – that being Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler, FTR. They were put into the game initially, with their character models being finished – but as of Spring 2022, they were removed from the game.
It’s currently unclear just why this was done, but they were far from happy to learn this, as being involved in video games will generally mean a good bonus as far as pay is concerned. FTR were previously playable in the WWE 2K games, appearing in 2K17 to 2K20.
DLC Already Being Planned To Fill Out A Disappointing Launch Roster?
This might indicate that for some reason, FTR is being withheld from the roster for a DLC pack down the line. With AEW looking to gain good will with fans with this video game debut, taking away one of the most popular tag teams in the company to get extra money from fans is not a smart move. This is backed up by there already being FTR chants recorded for the game.
The game is expected to launch with a more limited roster than fans will enjoy. Big names like The Young Bucks, Adam Cole, Kenny Omega, and more are confirmed, but the entire AEW roster will not be playable. This could mean mountains of DLC packs to come, to help re-coup the costs of developing the game.
Far from a consumer friendly practice, this is a slippery slope for AEW to go down with their first game. We can only hope that perhaps wrestlers like FTR will be added to game through free updates – which would be preferred by many fans.
