UFC light heavyweight Jamahal “Sweet Dreams” Hill doubled down on his title shot demands on this week’s edition of The MMA Hour. Hill pointed out that fighters all around him – including the reigning 205-pound champ – are “jumping the line” to get their hands on UFC gold, and with his habit of obliterating top contenders with highlight-reel finishes, he should have the same opportunity.
“We’ve seen it before. That’s how [Jiri] got the belt. He jumped [the line] and got the belt. Go down a weight class, Alex Pereira [fighting Israel Adesanya]. That’s not a jump? Everybody else is getting jumped around. Why not jump ‘Sweet Dreams’ around?”
Jamahal Hill Demands Immediate Title Shot Because Prochazka “Jumped the Line”
Hill also reminded fans that styles make fights, and both he and Prochazka are big, strong, flashy strikers. It’s a very fan-friendly title fight with high potential for a highlight-reel finish.
I feel like I match up with Jiri phenomenally. I feel like that would be a phenomenal fight, and I feel like I could take that fight. I feel like that would be a great fight. It’s a great showing. I feel like it would be very marketable.”
Hill also went into depth on how he expected Prochazka to approach the fight, and made it clear that he’s been keeping an eye on the champ for a while now.
“I think he showed a lot of toughness [against Teixeira]. I think he showed great athleticism, great strength, durability and physical ability, but I also saw some holes in his game that I can take advantage of and things that I do well that I feel would give him trouble and lead to his downfall.
Like how he takes clean shots. When he gets hit clean, he’s stunted for a second and then he stands there for a second. I don’t just hit you with one clean shot. I’m coming for more. I’m coming for multiple. I don’t think he’s ready for that.”
The light heavyweight title conversation right now appears to be leaning towards an all-European clash between former champ, Poland’s Jan Blachowicz, and the current champ, Czech Jiri Prochazka. If that doesn’t eventuate, however, “Sweet Dreams” wants his name on the list.
“S***, if you want another option out there, I’m going to put myself out there as another option. I don’t know what’s going on with them. I don’t know what everybody’s health is like but I’m just going to put it out there and say I’m ready to fight. I’m ready to go. Even if it’s for the title, I’m ready to go.”
