Kenny Omega returned to action at AEW Dynamite on August 17 when he was revealed to be the Young Bucks’ mystery partner against Los Ingobernables in the Trios tournament.
While there was clear evidence of ring rust, Omega finished the match in the best way possible – with a V-Trigger and a One Winged Angel for the win.
Kenny Omega Thanked/Blamed AEW Fans Following AEW Dynamite Return
This was a great moment for AEW as they got back arguably their biggest star after he’s been out with injuries since November13, 2021 when he lost the AEW World Championship to “Hangman” Adam Page.
It was a long overdue break as he was dealing with a slew of injuries and contemplating retirement. In an interview, Tony Kahn said he was already banged up when AEW started in 2019 and he marveled at Omega’s ability to have so many grueling matches.
It’s an awesome story when someone can return from injury, and the best part of the night may have come after the show went off the air.
For the fans
After AEW Dynamite went off the air, Kenny Omega took time to thank the fans as only he could.
“Maybe I should be mad, too. Maybe I should be mad too because the reason why I’m in this state right now, the reason why I have to have three, sometimes four sessions of physical rehab every single day is because of you. Maybe I should hate each and every one of you because I come back out here for you guys. So, what I’m gonna do right now is I’m gonna be a little strange. I don’t get out much, so I became a strange individual.
“I’m gonna liken you fans to a very mischievous cat that pees and poops all over the house. Boy, do I get mad when I find it. Not do I get mad because I have to clean it, but heck, how could I hate a little kitty cat? So on TV, I may blame you guys. I may hold resentment towards you guys. Perhaps, deep down inside, as long as this never gets aired, I do very much appreciate you. Thank you very much.”
He also talked about how he questioned himself during his rehabilitation and said it’s a work in progress and he’s glad the fans are joining him in this journey.
He made sure to point out he’s not a good guy and he may cheat to win, but in that ring they’ll give a genuine Kenny Omega and Young Bucks match.
It was a great moment for a heel wrestler to open himself up as much as he could without fully breaking character, and it’ll only help AEW going forward.
