In the six times Kazuchika Okada & Will Ospreay have met in singles action, Okada has won five times. The only time that Ospreay won was in the 2020 G1 Climax, when he formed the United Empire. Tonight however, he intends to prove he can defeat Okada in an honest fight – as he meets his former mentor in the finals of the G1 Climax.
Okada won the A-Block, only dropping one match along the way to JONAH – while Ospreay won the C-Block, dropping matches to David Finlay & Shingo Takagi. Whoever wins here has a chance to main event Wrestle Kingdom – and the glory of winning the G1 Climax is already a huge accomplishment. A month of hot action leads to tonight – and neither man will go down without a fight.
Wasting No Time Risking Their Bodies
Okada would kick things off with a side headlock, and Ospreay was unable to pry his way free without the aid of a rope break. Ospreay would take his chances with getting a clean break, and took an elbow to the neck. Okada would be taken down with the running hurricanrana, and sent to the floor, with Ospreay following only to be dropped with a DDT on the floor. A second DDT would follow, and Okada was clearly playing for keeps tonight.
Ospreay would choose to get in at the count of nine, not taking the full length of the twenty count to recover. Okada would apply a double arm choke in the ring, with Ospreay getting his foot on the bottom rope. Ospreay would almost take a third DDT, but was able to block with a vertical suplex instead.
Okada would try and set up the corner dropkick, but Ospreay had this well scouted – and would instead send Okada to the top rope, and tumbling to the floor. Ospreay would keep the pressure on, soaring high with the Skytwister Press to the floor. Okada would nearly recover to hit the Landslide on the floor, only for Ospreay to slip free and hit the OsCutter, springing off the barricade.
Will Ospreay Leaves It All In The Ring
Back in the ring, Ospreay would hit the elbow smash to the neck – but was launched into the air and crashed down after the backdrop. Okada would follow up with the flapjack, before the Money Clip would be applied in the middle of the ring. Ospreay fought free, but the backbreaker brought him back into the Money Clip.
Unable to make him tap out, Okada would drop Ospreay in the middle of the ring, and soared from the top rope with the elbow drop. Ospreay would avoid The Rainmaker, and nail some Kawada Kicks to the face. Okada hit the shotgun dropkick, and Ospreay would fire back with a lariat.
Ospreay would look for the Stormbreaker on the apron, but Okada blocked with a back drop and looked for Landslide on the apron. He’d lose control, and Ospreay would nail the OsCutter on the apron as this match passed the twenty minute mark. Phenomenal Forearm to the back of the neck was met by an OsCutter in the middle of the ring – which only got a two count.
Never Count Kazuchika Okada Out
Stormbreaker would be set up, but Okada would gain wrist control and hit the short arm lariat. Ospreay again looked for the OsCutter, but took the dropkick to the head in-midair. Spinning tombstone would land, but the Discus Lariat was blocked by a rolling elbow, hook kick and Chelsea Grin.
Ospreay would hit the Crossed Leg Tombstone, and called for Hidden Blade. He’d get all of it, but Okada kicked out. Pulling into the past of Okada, Ospreay went up high and nailed the High Fly Flow, before a Styles Clash for a two count. He’d figure if Tanahashi & Styles won’t work, Omega will. V-Trigger landed, but One Winged Angel was blocked.
Landslide and Rainmaker would follow, and somehow, some way – Ospreay kicked out of this combo. Okada would remain in control, hitting a German Suplex – but the Rainmaker was blocked into the Spanish Fly instead. Ospreay would keep the strikes coming, before Okada hit the Air Raid Neckbreaker. Inoki Enziguri would land, but the Cobra Flowsion would not. Hidden Blade was caught into the Flowsion, and one more Rainmaker was all it took.
