When it comes to legends in the world of professional wrestling, one name that will often come up is Lex Luger. Between his runs in WWF & WCW – Luger was always someone who radiated star power. Always very popular with the fans, Luger claimed many championships over his long career in the ring – yet has not been inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. He hopes that day will come soon, and would try to walk on stage to give his speech.
Lex Luger Speaks About His Mobility Issues Due To Spinal Cord Injury, Would Walk On Stage If Inducted In WWE Hall Of Fame
For those who have not kept up on the life of Lex Luger following his retirement from the ring, he’s been reliant on wheelchairs and walkers due to a spinal cord issue. Despite this, he’s able to live a healthy life – and works behind the scenes with WWE in regards to their Wellness Policy work.
While speaking with Sports Illustrated ahead of an A&E Special about his career as part of the Biography: WWE Legends series, Luger would have the following to say about his mobility – and what he’d do if inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
“It’s mind-boggling. I’m in phenomenal health,” Luger said. “Other than my mobility issues from my spinal cord issue, I’m very healthy, and that’s a miracle of God after what I put my body through. I usually use a wheelchair or a walker, but I can walk some. I have great mobility; I drive. But you know how your power will go out for a moment during a storm? That can happen to me, and I’m on the floor before I know it.
So I take a lot of precautions. I live totally independently, which wasn’t supposed to happen. I don’t look the same because I don’t hit the weights like I used to, but I’m healthy. I might pop out of the chair for that. I would take that chance, if that moment comes. That honor would be the cherry on top of my career.”
25 years ago today, on an episode of WCW Monday Nitro – Luger defeated Hulk Hogan to claim the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, one of the greatest moments in the history of WCW. Does Lex Luger belong in the Hall of Fame? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
