Carmelo Hayes has been the workhorse of NXT 2.0, and has been able to elevate the NXT North American Championship to levels that haven’t been felt in years. However, tonight he’s facing a former two time NXT Tag Team Champion in Giovanni Vinci, who has found some singles confidence to back up his absolutely insane skill set. This could well be one of the best matches in NXT history – provided no one tries to crash the match.
Giovanni Vinci’s Look Is Only Missing Some Gold
Hayes would send Vinci off the ropes to start this match, before tripping him up during a leapfrog attempt. Vinci would run Hayes down with a shoulder tackle in response, before taking chops in the corner. Springboard lariat would land, though Hayes was only able to get a two count.
Vinci would respond with a springboard crossbody, as if to say “anything you can do, I can do better” before nearly making the chest of Hayes bleed with some chops. They’d both hit the ropes with lariats in mind, and would meet in the middle of the ring. Vinci would be able to take the advantage, hitting a dropkick to the face.
Trick Williams would buy Hayes an opening by grabbing the ankle of Vinci. Taking control, Hayes would try to keep Vinci grounded to prevent any more explosive offence. He’d apply a tight front headlock, but Vinci broke free before a death valley bomb.
Carmelo Hayes Gets Some Serious Help To Remain Champion
Hayes would grab a roll up for the two count, before being able to set up the Fade Away for the near fall. Vinci tried a vertical suplex, only for Hayes to counter and hit a superkick. The blockbuster attempt was blocked into a brainbuster, getting a two count.
Hayes bounced back to hit a cutter, before being sent to the floor – with Vinci following with a sky high dive onto both Hayes & Williams. Double jump moonsault would get two, before Hayes got some help getting his foot on the bottom rope.
Vinci would hit a brutal lariat before looking for the powerbomb on Hayes, before Williams hit the ring to soften the blow. Williams took a powerbomb of his own, before Hayes would survive with a hurricanrana into the pinfall for the victory. Had Williams not been involved, Vinci had this match won – which could be enough to get him into a rematch.
