Tony D’Angelo is the Don of NXT, holding a PPV win over Tomasso Ciampa. He’s also absorbed Legado Del Fantasma into his family with a recent win at In Your House. However, tonight’s match goes back to 2021 – when D’Angelo fought alongside Carmelo Hayes in WarGames. Hayes calls himself the A-Champion of NXT, and is now in his second reign as NXT North American Champion. But D’Angelo wants that belt, and tonight we have a title match to cap off the episode.
Tony D’Angelo Flaunts His Power For An Early Edge
Hayes would try to lock up to start this match, but was easily overpowered by D’Angelo. He’d shove Hayes off another time, before mouthing off to his associate Santos Esocbar at ringside. Hayes would block a hip toss by landing on his feet, before also avoiding a lariat.
All of the D’Angelo Family would get up onto the apron when Trick Williams stepped up to the apron, and Williams backed down. Heavy punches would follow from D’Angelo, before a flapjack from D’Angelo. Hayes would dodge a punch on the apron, before tripping D’Angelo up. He’d get distracted by the Family, and was shoved into the ring steps.
Back into the ring, D’Angelo would hit a backbreaker, before stomping on Hayes. A choke using the bottom rope would continue the damage, before Hayes went for the springboard and took a punch to the midsection instead. Abdominal Stretch would be applied in the middle of the ring.
Carmelo Hayes Just Doesn’t Miss
Hayes would break free, and nailed the springboard lariat. Finally in control, he’d nail some mounted punches to the face. Hayes threw a kick only for D’Angelo to block into the Exploder Suplex for a two count. Some right hands to the jaw would follow, with Hayes getting wobbly in the legs.
D’Angelo rushed back in, before being tripped up. Codebreaker would land, getting Hayes the near fall. D’Angelo would hit a massive back body drop, setting it up from a rolling double leg takedown, but was unable to follow with the cover. He’d go for the brass knuckles from Escobar, but they were slid to Hayes instead.
Hayes would hit the right hand, and retains the NXT North American Championship. Santos Escobar just made a massive move, and showed that his issues with D’Angelo are far from over.
