Right now, AEW is in an interesting spot in regards to their roster. They ran one of their best episodes of Dynamite without the likes of CM Punk or The Elite on the show, after they would find themselves suspended after a backstage fight. This was a testament to how AEW can move on and adapt without some key talents. One name who got a lot of TV time in 2022 was Bobby Fish – who would recently leave the company, and has now taken the time to explain just why things didn’t work out.
Bobby Fish & AEW Couldn’t Agree On Contract Numbers
While sitting down for an interview with Steve Fall of NBC Sports – the topic of his AEW exit would come up for Bobby Fish. He would have the following to say – once again confirming his status as a free agent.
”Contract was coming up for potential renewal and we couldn’t find common ground on the numbers that we needed for both sides to be happy. So yeah, I’m a free agent.”
The unfortunate part of this is that hype was built up for a match between Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly & Bobby Fish vs. Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks – two of the biggest trios in professional wrestling over the past few years. With Fish still a free agent, this match could be done with him simply being paid for a few appearances, but plans ultimately were likely scrapped.
Not Ruling Out A WWE Return
There’s a chance that Fish will instead find his way back to WWE, where he was a fixture of the NXT brand as part of The Undisputed Era for many years. When asked about the chance of working with Triple H once again – Fish would have the following to say.
“I don’t know. I’m open to all options and offers at the moment. I do know that there have been quite a few people who have gone back through those doors. I’m happy for the people that I know who left there after I had left, a lot of friendships, and things were weird there for a bit. For them to be back in the direction of some normalcy and positivity, and working for Hunter, I know I enjoyed. I’m just happy for the people that I know that remained and the people that have come back to work there and it’s a good place to be again.”
