Daniel Cormier says that Joe Rogan should be praised for asking the right questions in the octagon. At the UFC 279 Joe Rogan didn’t hesitate to ask Khamzat Chimaev about his weight, and how would missing weight reflect on his career.
Dana White planned Chimaev to have the most important fight at the main event at UFC 279. He was a huge favorite in winning against Nate Diaz. However, his altercation behind the scenes leading to the cancelation of the press conference and his missing weight by 7.5 lbs resulted in a complete changeover of the fight card for the night.
Daniel Cormier Praises Joe Rogan For Not Backing Out Of Asking Khamzat Chimaev ‘Hard Questions’ At The Post-Fight Interview
After missing weight, the UFC matched Chimaev with Kevin Holland, who took the fight on extremely short notice. Unsurprisingly, ‘Borz’ took the win in the first round and dominated Holland. He submitted him after only 2 minutes into the first round.
Despite of the remarkable performance, Khamzat received loud ‘boos’ and whistling from the audience. The dissatisfaction of the audience was so big, actually, that Chimaev needed to run to the octagon when passing through the public.
After the fight and the outstanding performance, Joe Rogan went into the octagon to have his usual post-fight interview. However, this time instead of focusing on the fight, Rogan focused on Chimaev’s missing weight.
After the event was over Daniel Cormier took to Youtube to post a reaction video of the post-fight interview.
“I wanna know a little bit more about the weight cut issue. In the octagon, he said that the official pulled the plug on him the night before. He was closer than 7.5 pounds. I love that Joe Rogan asked him the hard questions. He tried to avoid it. I don’t wanna talk about this. Joe goes, ‘No, you have to talk about it’… I love that Joe held his foot to the fire a little bit.”
Daniel Cormier, as well as other sounding names from the UFC, are concerned that Khamzat Chimaev is considered one of the favorites to become a champion in his division. They are not concerned about the fact that he might one day become a champion, but about the way he conducts himself. Both inside and outside of the octagon.
Chimaev showed flaws outside the fighting ground. Before the event, he had a conflict with Paulo Costa, he had a backstage fight with Kevin Holland’s team, and lastly, his post-fight interview wasn’t something he should be proud of as well.
We will see how the weight miss and the conflicts outside the cage will affect his career. Let’s see if Dana White still has big plans for him.
