At this point of his career, Dolph Ziggler is a potential headliner for a class of the WWE Hall Of Fame. He’s done it all in the company, winning World Championships, Tag Team Championships, Money in the Bank and more. Often cited as one of the greatest in-ring workers WWE had during the 2010’s, Ziggler remains a steady name in WWE – getting a shocking reign as NXT Champion this year. He’s not keen on slowing down anytime soon, and has a dream match in mind to really test his skills once again.
Dolph Ziggler Wants An Hour With Shinsuke Nakamura At WrestleMania
During an appearance on the Casual Conversations with The Classic podcast, Ziggler would be asked to describe his dream WrestleMania matchup. He’d pick none other than Shinsuke Nakamura, and even has an idea on how he’d want this matchup to go.
“You know what I would like to do? I would like to do an hour with Shinsuke Nakamura and have it tie into his MMA and striking background and my wrestling background so we’d kind of it a MMA style feel to it with a build, and 45 minutes to an hour to make that where you see, where your body does that fight or flight halfway through to where you go this is some legitimate stuff and make it a, maybe like over in Japan where it’s not quite genuine UFC/MMA fight, but it’s pretty damn close. We can get some strikes and some chokes. That would be fun because I love Shinsuke, he does some of the coolest stuff. He’s a great guy, and he’s so good, and he understands this so well that we relate to each other so well, I think.”
Potentially A Great Matchup For 2023
This match up is not totally out of the question with the current WWE product. While the length is unlikely due to how packed WrestleMania cards often are – with Triple H in charge, the in-ring product has been put back to the forefront. Add in two nights of WrestleMania remaining the norm – and there’s time for a 25 minute epic between Nakamura & Ziggler on the card in 2023.
These are two of the best wrestlers on the roster, and letting them just go out and put on a great match could be an excellent way to open up one of the nights of action. They previously met on PPV at Backlash 2017 -the main roster PPV debut of Nakamura. This would be run back a month later on Smackdown Live, with Nakamura winning both encounters.
