This past Wednesday, we’d see a potentially massive debut for AEW. Following the Interim AEW Women’s World Championship match, the former Paige of WWE would make her debut. Retired in 2017 after a neck injury, Saraya would make her AEW debut – and was seemingly ready to wrestle. However, is she cleared?
Saraya Might Not Be Cleared To Hit The Ring In AEW
After her retirement in WWE, Saraya would work a variety of on-screen roles within WWE. She was the General Manager of Smackdown Live, the manager of The Kabuki Warriors, and would become a member of the ill-fated WWE Backstage program. During all of this, the closest she came to getting physical in the ring was being sprayed with mist by Kabuki Warriors as they turned heel.
Now, with her in a new company – the expectation is that she will be wrestling. A report from Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter would indicate otherwise however. The following would be published in this week’s issue.
“It was said that Saraya had not been cleared as of very recently, which would explain her not touching anyone during her debut angle.”
The First AEW On-Screen Official?
This is where her previous on-screen work and charisma might come in handy. With the AEW Women’s division often being a mess, she might well become an on-screen authority figure for that division in particular. It’s likely she will try to get cleared to wrestle once again, but neck injuries are not easy to come back from.
Regardless of her role in AEW, simply having her around will be a great boost for AEW. Her debut generated some serious interest in AEW – and Saraya is happy to be there. She would tweet the following after her debut.
“Fucking WOW! Absolutely blown away by the pop in the stadium and the reception outside of it. Been a long journey. Couldn’t be happier to be in @AEW thank you to everyone!”
