With CM Punk news dominating the headlines from the AEW All Out Media Scrum, Tony Kahn declaring that he experienced being Jim Crocket Promotions (WCW) and has more money and will fight back has largely slipped under the radar.
It’s understandable as Punk’s unprofessionalism led to a backstage brawl and numerous suspensions that included three EVPs and the vacating of the new Trios Championship.
Not to mention the AEW World Championship was also vacated with Punk expected to miss 6-8 months following surgery.
While it’s easy to assume Tony’s ready to start a war with the WWE, it’s nothing new for him or his company to take shots at the WWE to please their fans and attempt to get more eyes on their product.

A crowded marketplace
The crux of Tony’s latest declaration isn’t about alleged contract tampering or a mean sign a fan held, but the WWE putting two events on Labor Day weekend to draw attention and viewers from AEW All Out pay-per-view.
Tony mentioned how All Out was trending with the rest of AEW’s PPV sales, but they shared a crowded marketplace and it didn’t sit well with him.
“There’s a big difference between this year and last year. We were the first professional wrestling show and the only professional wrestling show on Labor Day weekend last year. We were the third professional wrestling show of the weekend this year. I don’t think that’s a coincidence. And when I talk about things I wasn’t thrilled about, I was a little surprised we were the third professional wrestling show this weekend, and it’s probably a little bit more challenging in the marketplace when it becomes a little more crowded. So our performance…in prior years, we never had this kind of competition. This was kind of a first for us in AEW to see this kind of a crowded marketplace. I’m not sure if this is what we’ll see from now on. If it is, when the fight is brought, I will continue to bring a fight of my own. I have unique ways to do that. I have a lot of money to fight with. This is not a game to me. This is my life, and I don’t think it is a joke. I take it very seriously.”
He was pleased with the numbers AEW posted compared to the WWE, and
“When I compared myself to Jim Crockett Promotions this weekend, I got a taste of the same medicine Jim Crockett Promotions took, but I have a lot more F—ing money and I’m serious, I’m not gonna sit back and take this f—ing sh–.”
To be fair, he also said he’s said a lot of good things about the WWE and doesn’t feel it’s been reciprocated, hinting to the contract tampering accusation.
At this point, it feels more like he’s playing the underdog like Vince McMahon did when WCW was starting to become a force, and it could be legitimate or to show the world he’s not going to be pushed around.
An aggressive stance could help bring in more viewers and we’ll have to wait and see if WWE responds.
Is Tony looking to get into a wrestling war, or is this his way of trying to force the WWE to back down if they’re trying something shady? Let us know in the comments below.
