During King Charles’ first speech as the King of England, he expressed his “profound sorrow” as he an emotional tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II.
In his speech, King Charles’s III said, “We owe her the most heartfelt debt any family could owe to their mother for her love, affection, guidance, understanding and example.” The 73 year old Monarch also acknowledged the “personal grief that all my family are feeling” as the whole country mourn the death of the Queen.

“This is a time of change for my family,” the King said as he continued his inaugural address to the kingdom which he recorded in the Blue Drawing Room of Buckingham Palace, where his late mother delivered Christmas remarks to her subjects over the years. King Charles’s first son, Prince William assumes the titles he held before the death of the Queen, becoming the Duke of Cornwall and Prince of Wales.
The King went on to acknowledge his younger son, Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, who is now fifth in line to the throne. His children, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor and Lilibet Mountbatten Windsor, are now sixth and seventh in line, respectively.
The King said, “I want also to express my love for Harry and Meghan as they continue to build their lives overseas.” Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been in the United Kingdom this week, carrying out charity visits, which was cut short when Harry had to rush to Scotland to join his royal family as they mourn the death of the Queen. Prince Harry returned to Windsor on Friday, according to his spokesperson.
He and his wife, will remain in the United Kingdom until the Queen’s funeral. Megan did not follow her husband to Scotland to be with the Queen during her last moments. The duo were reportedly scheduled to attend WellChild Awards in London on Thursday. However, the attendance was canceled when they heard about the Queen’s declining health.
