Many professional wrestlers have found their way to acting careers , especially some of the biggest names in the history of WWE. SDwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson , John Cena, and Dave Batista have all appeared in major Hollywood movies. Even the likes of Hulk Hogan & Stone Cold Steve Austin have appeared in major movies – and current Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns could be making a move to Hollywood soon. One name who had a chance to make this jump was Kurt Angle – but WWE shut the offer down.
Kurt Angle Had Chance To Star In Pearl, But WWE Shut It Down
During a recent podcast appearance, Kurt Angle would have a chance to explain why WWE shut down a chance for Angle to be in a leading role for the huge Pearl Harbor movie. Simply put – Vince McMahon put a lockdown on anyone jumping to Hollywood after losing The Rock. Angle would be quoted saying the following.
“It was a blockbuster movie. I was one of the leading roles. They wanted me and WWE said no. It was Pearl Harbor. It was a guy that was the hero that died at the end. I didn’t see the movie, but I was told who it was gonna be. Unfortunately, they said no, and the reason, and I totally get it, Rock just left and Vince was putting everybody on lockdown. He wasn’t going to lose another wrestler to Hollywood. So for the next several years, five or six years, nobody was allowed to do anything after Rock left. So it was very difficult to get any type of movies because WWE was controlling you and you had to do what they told you to do. But eventually, thank God, you know, it loosened up and then John Cena and Edge started getting movie roles, Batista, and everything started opening up.”
Angle in a Pearl Harbor movie would have worked fine, with him building his wrestling character around being an American hero. Angle would get to act in movies later in his career, but nothing as big as Pearl Harbor. Was this a bad move on WWE’s part? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
