Liv Morgan is living on borrowed time as WWE Smackdown Women’s Champion, depending on who you ask. She won the belt by cashing in Money in the Bank on Ronda Rousey, before successfully defending against Rousey at Summerslam… albeit with Morgan tapping out as she pinned Rousey. Tonight, she faces someone who came up with Rousey through the world of MMA, and former two time NXT Women’s Champion – the Queen of Spades, Shayna Baszler. More brutal in the ring than even Rousey, Baszler will potentially give Morgan two options tonight, tap or snap.
Liv Morgan Can’t Show Fear
Morgan would show no fear as she hit the ring as Smackdown Women’s Champion, but Shayna was looking to be back to her NXT prime. She’d go for the wrist as they locked up, before looking for the Kirifuda Clutch. Morgan would look to apply the hold herself, but Shayna was able to easily counter.
The rising knee in the corner would land, before Morgan would go for the springboard armdrag – and was dropped across the ropes. Targeting that arm that Ronda injured at Summerslam, Shayna would be in her element. A lariat would get a two count, before she’d look for the submission.
Morgan fought free with knee strikes to the back of the head, before a jawbreaker. The dropkick out of the corner would land, causing a double down. Morgan would kip up and show some fire, with some quick kicks. The facebuster got a two count, before Shayna caught Morgan with a knee below the jaw.
The Champion Lives To See Another Day
The champion was able to kick out, but was rocked. Shayna would look to stomp that elbow into oblivion, before Morgan slipped into the triangle choke. She’d move into a cross armbreaker, with Shayna remaining calm and locking her hands to minimise the pressure, before stomping Morgan’s face.
A deadlight gutwrench suplex and knee to the jaw saw Morgan kick out on instinct alone. Shayna would look for the superplex, but Morgan slipped free and battered the shoulder off the turnbuckle before a powerbomb. Shayna kicked out at two and right into the Kirifuda Clutch.
Morgan would attack the arm to survive, before hitting the Code Breaker & Oblivion facebuster for the gutsy victory. Her reign lives to see another day – but the damage will catch up to her eventually.
