Tony Nese & Josh Woods bit off a bit more than they could chew when they went after Wardlow & Samoa Joe. However, tonight they have a better chance to find some tag team success as they meet Varsity Blondes in tag team action. Brian Pillman Jr. & Griff Garrison were last seen on TV when they were run through by The Gunn Club – and another fast loss could mean more time off TV, meaning tonight is a chance for them to step up and prove they belong once again.
Varsity Blondes Lose The Match… And Their Tag Team Name
Pillman would kick things off with Nese, and had his ankle picked as the bell rang. Nese would be blocked from following up, but came out on top of the sprawl with wrist control – only to be kicked in the jaw. Pillman would set Nese up on the ropes for a chop to the chest, and tagged in Garrison to maintain this control.
Nese got a quick uppercut in, before tagging The Technical Beast into the match. Garrison was tripped up by Nese before a running knee strike to the face. An angle slam combined with a neckbreaker would follow, and this one was over. Backstage, Arn Anderson was watching in anger.
Mark Sterling would hit the ring after the match and claimed that was an easy win for his clients. He would reveal he trademarked the word Varsity in professional wrestling. The Blondes can not use that term again, as it belongs to The Varsity Athletes.
He’d put his attention to The Acclaimed who embarrassed him on Wednesday. The AEW World Tag Team Champion would hit the ring. They’d send The Varsity Athletes running – and scissored with Daddy Ass in the ring as the fans went wild.
Anna Jay & Tay Melo Crush Student & Mentor
Skye Blue is developing well in AEW, and has now gained Madison Rayne as a coach to help her push to that next level. This announcement would be mocked by Tay Melo & Anna Jay – as Skye Blue apparently still needs a wrestling coach this deep into her career. Tonight, Blue & Rayne will meet Melo & Jay in tag team action – and we’ll see if Blue can get the biggest win of her AEW career.
Jay would kick things off against Rayne, and would be able to quickly corner the veteran – allowing Melo to get a cheap shot in. Melo would get the tag, and Blue would meet her in the ring with a rising knee strike. A blind tag to Jay would see Blue overwhelmed, being sent to the apron – tripped by Melo and kicked in the face. Jay & Melo would work together to beat Blue down in their corner, choking her on the ropes.
Blue would block the TayKO, getting a two count off an inside cradle. Melo would hit a spin out side slam – before locking in a Full Nelson on the mat. Blue used her legs to push out, but was unable to make the tag. Some elbow smashes and a facebuster would follow, and Rayne would get the much needed tag.
Rayne would get the control back, and Blue got the blind tag to set up a crossbody. She’d get a two count, before taking a piledriver from Melo. A knee strike from Melo and the Queenslayer from Jay – and this one was over.
