The story of Ace Steel in AEW has been an interesting one to say the least. Steel was hired following his WWE release, where he worked for many years as a trainer in the WWE Performance Center. As a close friend of CM Punk, this was a natural choice for AEW at the time. Steel would appear on TV once, hyping up CM Punk to accept the match with Jon Moxley in the main event of All Out – and his intense promo got fans behind Punk.
However, following the main event of All Out which saw CM Punk win the AEW World Championship for a second time, and suffer an injury in the process – things went off the rails. Punk would go on a rant during the post-show media scrum, leading to a backstage brawl with The Elite – with Steel involved. Everyone was suspended following this, and now Ace Steel has been released from his AEW contract.
AEW Releases Ace Steel Following All Out Brawl
This would be confirmed by Dave Meltzer on the Wrestling Observer Radio, with Meltzer quoted saying the following.
“So he was officially released yesterday. So I guess that is the first bit of news out of that whole situation in weeks. There’s a lot of other stuff going on.”
There have been rumours of lawsuits being involved between Punk & The Elite. This prevented Kenny Omega from having involvement in AAA TripleMania, where he was set to send in a video message. Since All Out, The Elite & Punk have not even been mentioned on TV – with Punk briefly seen during a rundown of former ROH World Champions.
Steel being released shows a glimpse of the wheels finally being in motion once again, which could be positive in terms of seeing The Elite back on TV within 2022. Punk is set to be out for 8+ months with a torn left tricep. Do you think Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks will be put back into the mix by Full Gear?
