Over the past few years, Matt Taven has been a bit of a polarising figure in professional wrestling. His reign as ROH World Champion put him in the spotlight, and many felt he didn’t live up to the history of the belt. However, since then – Taven has been proving himself as a tag team star, claiming the ROH & Impact Wrestling Tag Team Championships alongside Mike Bennett – and those reigns have gotten him attention from WWE & NJPW.
Matt Taven Gets Interest From Both WWE & NJPW
During Monday’s episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer would reveal that both WWE & NJPW have interest in Matt Taven. Alongside others like Mia Yim & Vincent, Taven had finished up with Impact Wrestling after this past weekends shows. This makes Taven, his tag team partner Mike Bennett, and Maria Kanellis Bennett a promising trio of free agents.
WWE is interesting in bringing in Taven, with it unclear if that interest is for the WWE main roster or as part of NXT. We might be seeing WWE sign Vincent & Tyler Bateman – as they were backstage for Monday Night RAW, and are likely to be involved with potential faction plans surrounding Bray Wyatt. Taven could fit into that mix as well, being given a character from the Firefly Funhouse and letting his in-ring work shine.
However, NJPW also seems to have interest in bringing in Taven & Bennett as part of their tag team division. With World Tag League right around the corner, NJPW are likely sending out feelers to see which teams are interested in being part of the field. Both BOSJ & G1 Climax had outside talent in the mix, and World Tag League is expected to bring it’s share of surprises.
At 37 years old, Matt Taven is in the prime of his career right now – and will likely be ready to deliver in both NJPW or WWE. Where do you want to see Taven end up? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
