Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen some changes to the aesthetics and mood of WWE’s NXT brand. They’ve peddled back on the color splash aesthetic of NXT 2.0, clarified their hiring practices, and sent some long overdue names up to the WWE’s main roster. This included Santos Escobar and the rest of Legado Del Fantasma, who have made their debut on Smackdown Live. However, this did leave a gap in the roster – which Shawn Michaels hopes to fill.
Shawn Michaels Wants That Next Big Hispanic Superstar In NXT
During a media call ahead of Halloween Havoc 2022, the two time WWE Hall of Famer and current head of creative in NXT Shawn Michaels would say that the brand is looking for their next big hispanic star. Michaels would have the following to say.
“I don’t know who’s going to be the next Hispanic Superstar to come through NXT, and start to forge a different legacy, and can it be as impactful as Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio? Look, that’s what we’re always looking to find here in NXT. But I tell you, those two guys set the bar really high. We’re looking forward to seeing who’s going to go after that right now after Santos and Legado Del Fantasma. I think that’s where we are here in NXT, looking to see who is going to be the next Hispanic superstar that can take that place.”
Options Within And Outside Of WWE
Right now, there are a few options within WWE that would fit that spot – with former NXT Cruiserweight Champion Angel Garza standing out. Garza has been part of the Smackdown Live roster for a while now, used as part of a tag team with his cousin Huberto Carillo. They’ve struggled to find TV time however, and a bigger role in NXT could be just what it could take to make one of them the next big hispanic superstar of the brand.
Another option is free agent Bandido, who has offers from WWE & AEW to consider at the moment. Bandido is a former ROH World Champion, and was on hand to face Chris Jericho in the main event of a recent episode of AEW Dynamite. If Bandido was to sign with WWE, you’d expect him to pop up during Halloween Havoc tonight, possibly in a classic front row reveal.
