May 1st, 1998 – Jun Akiyama went one on one with Hiroshi Hase in front of 58,000 fans in Tokyo Dome. The minute Eddie Kingston watched that match, he knew one thing – he wanted to fight Jun Akiyama. Tonight, he gets that wish as he teams up with Ortiz to face Akiyama and Konosuke Takeshita in a tag team match on AEW Rampage. Akiyama is the very definition of a living legend for his 30 years in the ring, and tonight he might learn that Kingston deserves that title as well.

Could This Dream Match Be A Nightmare?

Kingston would start this match alongside Takeshita, being forced to wait a little bit longer before getting that dream match. A test of strength in the middle of the ring would see Kingston taken into a side headlock before being shoved off into the ropes. Kingston would catch Takeshita with a Belly to Belly Suplex, before tagging in Ortiz and rushing across the ring to hit Akiyama with a back elbow.

Takeshita would take Ortiz down, before tagging Akiyama. Ortiz would be dropped with a stiff back elbow, before a boot to the face of Kingston on the apron. Akiyama would spike Ortiz with a piledriver, but let the pinfall go as Kingston looked to break it up. Ortiz would find himself isolated, with Takeshita getting taken off the top rope with a cutter – allowing Kingston to receive a tag.

Kingston would hit the ring and roughed Takeshita up with a neckbreaker for a one count. Machine gun chops in the corner would not impress Akiyama neither would a thumb to the eye and a double underhook suplex. Akiyama hit the ring, and Kingston would quickly lock eyes with him. Ortiz & Kingston would work together on a double suplex on Takeshita.

A northern lights suplex would get Ortiz a two count, before Takeshita would fight off a two on one advantage. Ortiz nailed the backbreaker, before Kingston spiked him with the DDT – locking eyes with Akiyama on the apron. Kingston would trade strikes with Takeshita in the middle of the ring, again trying to impress Akiyama. Takeshita-line would land, and Kingston was forced to tag out.

Akiyama would nail Ortiz with a running knee strike, before the Exploder Suplex. Kingston would finally get a chance to trade blows with Akiyama, being levelled by an elbow smash. Takeshita would drop Ortiz with a Blue Thunder Bomb, before Kingston hit the backdrop driver. Akiyama and Kingston would trade blows again, before Kingston suplexed his hero and took one in return.

Knee strike to the face would fake Kingston out of the ring, and Ortiz was spiked on his head with an exploder suplex for the finish. This is the first televised victory for Takeshita in AEW, and obviously the first victory for Akiyama in the promotion.

Will Kingston look for a singles match against Akiyama? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.

Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
