Orange Cassidy has shockingly been one of the most active champions in AEW since winning the AEW All-Atlantic Championship from PAC. Tonight, he’s not picked a fight in a Triple Threat – but rather called out the returning Lee Johnson. Johnson made his return from injury on the Halloween episode of AEW Dark, helping QT Marshall defeat Danhausen.
Now, Johnson gets a chance to become champion, but OC won’t let the belt go without a fight. Johnson is often overlooked by fans, but is a standout trainee from The Nightmare Factory – and thus is one of the best homegrown young talents in the company at just 24 years old.
Big Shotty Gets The Biggest Shot Of His Budding AEW Career
Before the match, it’d be said that Johnson didn’t join The Factory – he just came home. He’s their first graduate, and is back where he belongs. He was held back in the Nightmare Family, and now has a chance to be a focus star of a faction… even if The Factory is one of the lowest ranking factions in the company. Johnson was calm and collected as this match began, but not more so than Cassidy.
Cassidy would be dropped with a quick hip toss, before locking in a side headlock. Johnson sent him off the ropes, only to be dropped with a shoulder tackle. He’d try for an armdrag, but Cassidy faked him out. The Factory ran a distraction at ringside, allowing Johnson to hit a dropkick.
Cassidy would slam the face of Johnson off the turnbuckle, as Best Friends & Danhausen would attack QT Marshall. This just distracted the referee, as Nick Comoroto would pull Cassidy from the ring and throw him into the crowd. Danhausen would try to curse Comoroto, only for QT to hit a low blow and a piledriver on the steel steps.
Orange Cassidy Comes Out With The Chaotic Victory
Cassidy was able to pull himself into the ring, only to be stomped out by Johnson. A stiff right hand would follow in the corner, with Johnson dragging Cassidy to the middle of the ring as he tried for a brainbuster. Cassidy would try to block, but eventually fell – though it only got Johnson a one count.
Johnson & Cassidy would hit the ropes with a lariat in mind, ending up with a double down. At ringside, Comoroto would take Chuck Taylor down – the only man left supporting Cassidy. Johnson was used to take Comoroto down, before Cassidy dove from the ring and landed on The Factory.
Back in the ring, Cassidy would look for a DDT, only for Johnson to block into a Blue Thunder Bomb. Comoroto would get involved again, only for Trent to run him down with a spear. Cole Karter & QT took Trent down, before Taylor hit the dive to the floor. Back to the legal match, Cassidy would miss the Orange Punch – getting rolled up for a two count.
Johnson would hit a thrust kick befor looking for a powerbomb and being dropped with the Beach Break for the victory. He’d celebrate with Best Friends, and QT Marshall considered attacking – but was outnumbered. Cole Karter would take a double chokeslam powerbomb combo, with Best Friends closing out the show in style.
