Saudi Arabia Declares National Holiday Following Shock World Cup Victory Over Lionel Messi's Argentina

Saudi Arabia has responded to its remarkable World Cup victory against Argentina by declaring a national holiday to mark that moment.

Saudi Arabia Declares National Holiday Following Shock World Cup Victory Over Lionel Messi’s Argentina

According to reports, the Saudi authorities have decided to declare Wednesday a public holiday following the country’s 2-1 victory over Argentina the day before.

This was a monumental feat since Argentina were one of the favourites going into the tournament. And things appeared to be going their way, as they took a first-half lead into the interval following Lionel Messi’s penalty.

However, the game soon turned in the second half following a 10-minute spell in which the game turned on its head. Goals from Saleh Al Shehri and Salem Al Dawsari put the Saudis into the lead, which marked one of the greatest shocks of all time in World Cup history.

They had to ride their luck at times, as Argentina had three goals ruled out for offside. But with the result now over, the King of Saudi Arabia Salman bin Abdulaziz has declared a national holiday.

As a result, those working in the public and private sector will be given the day off to celebrate. In addition, the same also applies to those who are students. This was a huge moment because of the fact that it ended Argentina’s 36-unbeaten streak heading into the tournament.

And once the dust had settled, this is what the manager (Herve Renard) of Saudi Arabia had to say: “We have made history for Saudi football and it will stay forever.

“That is most important, but we also need to look forward because we still have two very difficult games to play.”

The Saudi team will now be turning their attention towards the next fixture, as they take on Poland, while Argentina will have a tricky tie against Mexico. And following this shock result, who knows how the fixtures will pan out moving forward. Time will tell.
