Ever since Vince McMahon shocked the wrestling world by retiring from the WWE in July following sexual harassment allegations and of him paying for women’s silence, Triple H has run WWE Creative while Nick Kahn and Stephanie McMahon run the business side of things.
While there’s a definite change in the air with Triple H bringing back stars Vince released and many saying the atmosphere is different and no one’s walking on egg shells.
Sgt. Slaughter Joins Kurt Angle in their Belief Vince McMahon is Still Running WWE
That doesn’t mean Vince isn’t at least offering his thoughts on how things should be run, and there have been a few shows that felt like Vince was calling the shots. In short, they were highly predictable and didn’t make sense.
But that could be Triple H using some of his suggestions. With Vince being his father in law and having a controlling interest in company shares, it’d be wise to consider his suggestions at the very least.
Vince is in control
While all of that makes sense, WWE Hall of Famers and former world champions Kurt Angle and Sgt. Slaughter have shared their thoughts that Vince is still running things.
On Rene Dupree’s Cafe de Rene podcast in August, Angle shared his thoughts:
“I personally don’t think he has fully retired. You know Vince, he’s gonna be behind the scenes. Vince is not letting go of that company, he will not let it go until his hands are dead cold and they pry it out of his cold dead hands. He’s not letting go of that company until he dies, and that’s just it.
“I’m not trying to cause any problems for WWE or for Vince McMahon, because I love Vince to death. But there is no way that he is going to let it go. He already set up Stephanie being in charge and Triple H being in charge of Talent Relations. He got everyone in the right positions so that he could continue to run the show. So I’m not trying to tell everyone ‘Hey world, Vince McMahon is still involved.’ He might not be, but I think he is. He’s on the phone ‘Stephanie. Call this, call that.’”
Slaughter recently shared similar thoughts in an interview with Bill Apter (special thanks to sportskeeda.com for the transcript).
“I feel that he’s [Vince McMahon] still there and there’s no way to keep him away as far as his knowledge of the business [goes]. If it wasn’t for his knowledge, a lot of us wouldn’t be doing the things we’re doing today. I wish him all the best. He’s always been a good friend to me. And then he became a boss and then he became a friend again. To me, he was part of my life and is the reason I’m sitting here talking to you, along with Harley Race.”
What do you think? Does Vince still have a say or is Triple H taking his suggestions while running it how he feels is best? Let us know in the comments below.
