Considering how legendary the professional wrestling career of Kurt Angle was, many viewed his retirement match as a low in his career. Having been inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame the night prior, Angle would wrestle Baron Corbin in a losing effort at WrestleMania 35. The match went just over six minutes, and was considered one of the worst of the night. However, Angle has remained retired since 2019 – but was approached by AEW for a ten match deal following his retirement.
Kurt Angle Reveals That He’d Have Returned To The Ring In AEW For 3 Million Dollars
Angle has spoken in the past about this deal, and how he had turned it down due to his body simply not being in ring shape anymore. However on the latest episode of “The Kurt Angle Show” would reveal the price that would need to be met to get him to lace up his boots again. Angle would be quoted saying the following.
“Well, to even consider coming back, it’s going to have to be a substantial amount of money. do remember, Tony Khan wanted me to come in and wrestle for him. This was like 4 years ago, and I said, ‘For 10 matches, I want $3 million.”
It’s unlikely that even if Khan agreed to that now that we’d see Angle return to the ring. He’s recently signed a merchandising contract with WWE, allowing him to appear on WWE TV when able, have WWE make Kurt Angle merchandise – but kept Angle’s ability to show up at fan conventions and smaller shows as a guest open. Angle seems happy being retired, and his final stretch of matches in 2019 showed that his body simply wasn’t what it once was.
It’s an interesting “What If?” type scenario, especially seeing how someone like Sting is used in AEW – as it’s likely Angle would have found himself in a very similar situation, working high profile tag team matches as a special attraction. At the end of the day, the deal wasn’t made – and it’s highly unlikely Kurt Angle will enter the ring for another match at this point.
