In 2013, it seemed like WWE had found a star in Damien Sandow. He was popular with the fans, had won Money in the Bank – and was set to become a World Champion. However, that is not how things would play out – with Sandow quickly falling down the card. He’d remain entertaining as the stunt double of The Miz – but never reached main event heights in WWE again.
William Regal Feels Damien Sandow Did All The Right Things, Was The One That Got Away
One man who truly saw the potential of Sandow was William Regal. The current coach of All Elite Wrestling’s Blackpool Combat Club was working for WWE for the entire run of Sanow – and thinks he was so much better than what fans got to see. During the latest edition of The Gentleman Villain podcast, Regal had the following to say.
“Damien Sandow was absolutely magic and special with everything he was given. It was like another, if anything, he was like, that’s why I liked him so much, he was like me. Is he going to be the top guy like Seth Rollins, and Jon Moxley, and Roman Reigns, maybe not? Is he going to be a perfect player on your show and can do anything and make anything work? Yes.
He can pull off good comedy, and I like to consider myself one of those. He was just brilliant at it. The others have gone on to do well. The guys you mentioned became The Shield and look what’s happened to them. They were all great and I think the world of all of them. They were all great to be around at that point in time. In FCW, there were always polite, respectful, asked the right questions, and did the right things. Damien Sandow was just the one that got away.”
His post WWE work in Impact Wrestling & the National Wrestling Alliance as Aron Stevens would be similarly praised, especially his work alongside The Question Mark in NWA during 2019 and 2020. As of the time of writing, Sandow last wrestled on a recent episode of NWA Power, losing to JR Kratos via DQ.
