This past Wednesday on AEW Dynamite, fans saw one of the most shocking matches in the company’s history. Chris Jericho would enter a tune up match against a local talent named Action Andretti. Ten minutes later, the match was over – with the eight time world champion being defeated. It was quickly compared to 123 Kid defeating Razor Ramon in 90’s WWF, and Andretti has been over the moon because of this.
Action Andretti Speaks After Defeating Chris Jericho
While appearing on Busted Open Radio, Andretti would have a chance to speak about this victory. When asked about how he was feeling, Andretti had the following to say.
“I just felt grateful. I couldn’t believe that was the situation I was going to be in and to have that many eyes on me. Chris, right now, is doing excellent things in AEW, and has been for the past couple of years. The fact that I had the opportunity to go up against the former World Champion, just lost the Ring of Honor Championship, coming off the great run he had with that title. It was a lot, but I was super ready for it and I knew I had to show up and show out, and I feel like that’s what I did. It was a really cool opportunity, I’m super grateful I got that opportunity and made the most of it, even for the victory over Chris Jericho.”
There is little doubts that this was not planned by Jericho, who reportedly was impressed by Andretti after a match on AEW Dark against QT Marshall from November. It played into the story of Jericho being rattled after his recent loss to Claudio Castagnoli, where he tapped out after being swung around with the giant’s swing thirty times in a row. Jericho remains one of the most selfless names in wrestling in this regard, and has contributed to Andretti being signed to a contract in All Elite Wrestling.
