During a WWE live event on December 29th 2022 – fans would notice AJ Styles get hurt during a match against The Judgement Day. He went down clutching his leg, and would be helped to the back, with the referee throwing up an X with his arms to indicate something went wrong. After a bit of speculation on just what type of injury Styles suffered, he’d let fans know via Twitter.
AJ Styles Suffers Broken Ankle At WWE Live Event
AJ Styles would inform fans that he suffered a broken ankle, but won’t need surgery to make a complete recovery.
“Just want you guys to know that I’m ok. Broken ankle is what I’m dealing with. No surgery, this just takes some time to recover. This will be the longest I’ve ever been out of the ring. Thanks for the prayers and get well wishes.”
This basically just means that we won’t be seeing much of Styles in the first half of 2023, with Styles out for the Royal Rumble and probably WrestleMania as well. There is never a good time to get an injury in WWE, but ahead of the Road to WrestleMania is possibly the worst time.
Missing His First WrestleMania Since Joining WWE
Styles was not factored into any major plans, but given his high skill level in all aspects – it’s very likely he would have found his way onto one of the cards. This will mark the first time that Styles missed a WrestleMania since signing with WWE in 2016. Styles has a 4-7 record at WrestleMania, defeating the The New Day, Shane McMahon, Shinsuke Nakamura and Randy Orton at the event, but taking losses to Chris Jericho, The Undertaker & Edge.
There is no doubt that Styles will be back as fast as he can be, and we can just hope that this injury doesn’t force him to change up his in-ring style as broken ankles can do. Styles is very adaptable however, and will always find a way to keep going in the ring. We here at TheOvertimer wish Styles a quick and speedy recovery, and hope to see him back in the ring in 2023.
