Right now, it looks as if 2022 will close out with The Acclaimed as the AEW World Tag Team Champions. The team originally made their debut for All Elite Wrestling in 2020, and would work their way up the card – until they would become one of the top teams in the company in 2022. Heading into All Out 2022, they were quickly gaining momentum and winning over fans – but their title match with Swerve In Our Glory was what made them the top team in the company.
Anthony Bowens Feels All Out 2022 Was The Night The Acclaimed Truly Connected With Fans
While appearing on Busted Open Radio, Anthony Bowens would recount the moment where he knew The Acclaimed had gotten over with fans. Bowens would be quoted saying the following.
“I think it was All Out where, at the pay-per-view against Swerve in our Glory. I was in there with Swerve and I was trying to wrestle him down to the ground and keep him and down and all of a sudden, we hear the “Oh, scissor me Daddy chant,’ going on and I think the both of us, even Swerve, as much as I dislike him, we just forgot we even had to wrestle each other because we were like, ‘Huh? What’s happening?’ That’s when it really kind of caught on.”
The alliance between The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn has been a shocking success, giving Gunn a late career resurgence – putting him on the card in a major match for AEW’s debut in Canada. At All Out, Swerve In Our Glory would leave as the champions – but lost the belts to The Acclaimed at AEW Grand Slam a few weeks later, and failed to reclaim them at Full Gear. The Acclaimed would go on to defend against FTR shortly after, with that victory establishing them as the best tag team in AEW.
Right now, they’re seemingly set to defend against Jay Lethal & Jeff Jarrett – with Jarrett & Lethal attacking The Acclaimed on the most recent episode of AEW Dynamite. No date for this match has been set, with many expecting to see it announced for their New Years Bash episode on December 28th.
