Braun Strowman Calls WWE Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER “An Absolute Dirtbag”’

We might be on our way to another instant classic from the reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion, GUNTHER. After defeating Ricochet to remain champion – he seems to be set to face The Monster Among Men next, with Braun Strowman recently taking aim on the dominant champion. Strowman has also now taken to insulting Gunther in social media exclusives.

Braun Strowman Calls GUNTHER A “Dirtbag’, Wants The Intercontinental Championship Back

While speaking on the Smackdown Lowdown with Megan Morant, The Monster Among Men would push his feud with Imperium forward.

“You say it’s unfinished because you’re absolutely right. Gunther cost me the World Cup tournament. Ricochet took advantage of it and I don’t blame him. Gunther, on the other hand, is an absolute dirtbag. Those two clowns that run around with him, they think they can stick their nose in anybody’s business whenever they want to. They found out tonight that it don’t always happen on my watch.

I’m not forgetting what happened. You have that Intercontinental Championship and I promise you if I ever get my hands on you, I would love to be the monster to take the title away from your hands and put it where it belongs – around my waist. I’m coming for you, be ready!”

Strowman was Intercontinental Champion in 2020, his first singles title in WWE. His reign was ended by Sami Zayn at just 37 days, with Strowman making no successful defences.

The Monster Among Men vs. The Ring General

Simply put, this is the exact type of matches that will continue to elevate the WWE Intercontinental Championship. GUNTHER has been the best champion we’ve seen hold the belt in years, finally making the belt feel like it matters – more so than even the likes of Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns or Seth Rollins.

His match with Sheamus from Clast At The Castle was maybe the best WWE match of the year, and Strowman is at his best in matches that are heavy on physicality. That style has no one better than GUNTHER, and this match would work as either a Smackdown Live main event or as a match for the Royal Rumble next month.

A wrestling fan practically since birth, who has been hooked since he got his first toy wrestling ring for Christmas as a child. Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
