Earlier today, WWE would air their annual celebration of the United States military with Tribute To The Troops 2022. Getting it’s start in the mid-2000’s with the first event in December 2006, WWE used to travel overseas to Iraq for the events – but since 2009 has been a simple taped show, often being taped around Veterans Day. That was the case this year – and the results are here.
Tribute To The Troops 2022 Results
This year, the show was a very simple affair – featuring just three pre-taped matches. The results are as follows.
Braun Strowman def. LA Knight
Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler def. Tamina & Emma
Drew McIntyre & Sheamus & Ricochet def. Imperium (Gunther, Ludwig Kaiser & Giovanni Vinci)
Also shown during the event was a handful of video packages in support of the United States military members, namely Midshipman Morgan Prigmore, & Major Sergeant and Medal of Honor recipient, Matthew Williams.
A Non-Canon Event With A Solid Main Event
This event could be considered non-canon, with LA Knight taking a quick defeat to Braun Strowman despite being involved in a high profile feud with Bray Wyatt. There was no involvement of Roman Reigns or The Bloodline this year, despite Reigns being involved with the 2021 event – where he defeated Shinsuke Nakamura.
The biggest name seen on this year’s event was Smackdown Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey, who is one of the focus stars of Smackdown Live right now. Probably the match most worth going back to watch was the main event involving Ricochet, Sheamus & Drew McIntyre taking down Imperium. You can’t go wrong with GUNTHER, and Ricochet getting the deciding pinfall bodes well for his future on Smackdown Live.
It’s hard to call Tribute to The Troops a must see event – but it has shown an increase in quality from the 2021 event. We can only hope that WWE will continue to keep these shows coming, with it being easy content that serves a solid purpose at the end of the day – even with it losing its unique aesthetic over a decade ago.
