While Alex Coughlin & Gabriel Kidd have clear skill, power and athletic ability – they’ve not done a lot to show they can work as a tag team. They’ve gone 0-3 in this tournament, and another loss will put them at risk of mathematical elimination. Tonight, they face down former IWGP Tag Team Champions in Chase Owens & Bad Luck Fale, which is a duo that you don’t want to face at such a critical turn.
Alex Coughlin & Gabriel Kidd Suffer Another Loss
Kidd would kick things off alongside Owens, getting a wrist lock in the middle of the ring. Owens would manage to grapple his way free, before being taken down to the mat with a snapmare. Kidd would be driven into the corner, with Owens refusing a clean break – instead hitting a chest splitting chop.
Kidd would shove Owens down, before taking an eye rake and shoulder tackle. Owens would have the Monkey Flip scouted, but missed a blind tag to Coughlin who caught Owens with a scoop slam. Deadlift Gutwrench Suplex would follow, before a chop in the corner was blocked with the knees of Owens. The next chop would land flush, before Kidd helped with a series of strikes.
Fale would help to restore order, just stepping on the back of Kidd. BULLET CLUB would work to isolate Kidd from his corner, hitting a knee lift into a lariat for a near fall. Kidd would avoid a running splash from Fale in the corner, before avoiding a scoop slam and nearly completing the tag… only for Owens to yank Coughlin off the apron.
Kidd would catch Owens with a brainbuster in the ring, and finally got the tag. Coughlin tried to scoop slam Fale, but was unable to get him up. He’d be run down with a shoulder tackle before the elbow drop got a two count. Kidd would try to fight Fale & Owens while Coughlin recovered, before taking the Grenade Launcher.
Coughlin would avoid the Rocket Launcher and body slam Fale in the middle of the ring, before the Belly To Belly Suplex to Owens. Owens came back with a C-Trigger and Package Piledriver for the victory.
Suzuki-gun Are Not In A Good Mood
Minoru Suzuki & Lance Archer have been in a foul mood all tournament long, and a loss to Aussie Open has them in a particularly rough mood. That could be a very bad thing for United Empire tonight, as Great-O-Khan & Aaron Henare could be used to send a message to Kyle Fletcher & Mark Davis. Both teams have a 2-1 record in this tournament, meaning someone will be able to move up to 6 points.
Archer & Suzuki would attack as soon as they hit the ring – with Suzuki taking O-Khan to the floor while Archer focused on Henare. O-Khan would throw Suzuki into the barricade, before rolling him into the ring for a choke. Suzuki would catch O-Khan with an upward kick to the jaw, before taking another choke.
Henare would get some heavy strikes in the United Empire corner, with Suzuki simply looking unimpressed by what was on offer. Suzuki applied the armbar over the top rope, before driving Henare into the barricade and smashing him in the nose with an elbow. Archer would keep the pressure on in the ring, levelling Henare with a stiff forearm smash.
Everybody Dies
Henare would manage to catch Suzuki with a spin kick, and completed the tag to O-Khan. He’d drive the head of Suzuki into the corner, before a shoulder tackle for a one count. Suzuki would hit the big boot in the corner and drive the face of O-Khan into the corner, before a PK for a two count.
O-Khan would try to stand and strike with Suzuki, falling to a knee to the midsection. Archer would apply the claw hold to O-Khan, before O-Khan would respond with one of his own. O-Khan would go for a knee bar, before Archer found the bottom rope. United Empire would attempt to double team Archer, only to be cornered for some rushing elbow smashes.
Henare would be able to stop him, but Suzuki prevented the Imperial Drop. Archer was hit the the rising knee, but caught Henare in the corner with one of his own before Blackout for the victory – putting Suzuki-gun back on track for victory.
