Ever since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Netflix documentary aired, the couple is constantly in the headlines. In the second part of their ‘story’ on Netflix, Prince Harry speaks about the difficult times when Meghan Markle lost her baby in 2020 and blames the media for it.
“I believe my wife suffered a miscarriage because of what the Mail did. I watched the whole thing. Now, do we absolutely know that the miscarriage was caused by that? Of course, we don’t. But bearing in mind the stress that that caused, the lack of sleep and the timing of the pregnancy, how many weeks in she was, I can say, from what I saw, that miscarriage was created by what they were trying to do to her.” – Prince Harry says in the episode.

Back in 2020, Meghan Markle was under a massive attack from the press. Negative stories about her came out from all over the place. She was becoming the center of negative attention in the Royal family. At the same time, she was in the middle of a copyright infringement lawsuit against Associated Newspapers, the mother company of the Daily Mail and Mail Online. The lawsuit was due to a private letter that Meghan Markle sent to her father and get published on TheDailyMail’s site.
We are all aware that the leaking of private matters is something that would most probably cause stress in all of us. However, according to UK lawyers, the most money you can extract in the best-case scenario from such a case is £75,000 to £125,000.
“Normally for that kind of invasion of privacy you would expect £75,000 to £125,000. It does show that the curation of her reputation was an area where she had effectively invaded her own privacy.” – the media lawyer Mark Stephens said.
However, Meghan Markle got out of the lawsuit with £1 million. Not a very bad deal. The final three episodes of the Netflix show go further down the distance against the Royal Family. Prince Harry reflects on the times he considered leaving the UK, and Meghan Markle speaks about the suicidal thoughts she had back then. Amongst other things, Prince Harry opens up about his relationship with his brother, Prince William.
He explains how it worsened with time. He recalls one particular moment when the older prince ‘screamed and shouted’ at him. According to Prince Harry, this conflict came as a result of his announcement to move out of the UK together with Meghan Markle.
Prince Harry doubles down on the claims that Prince William ‘bullied’ him throughout the documentary. He says that there was a joint statement of him and Prince William that came out in the media – that they never gave. The statement was how Prince Harry is denying the claims that Prince William ever ‘bullied’ him out of the Royal family. Furthermore, he accused his brother of trading stories with the media. Prince Harry states that with this, William broke a promise that they gave to one another when they were younger.
“A story came out about our stepping down as senior royals. It states that part of the reason that Meghan and I were leaving was that William had bullied us out.” – Prince Harry recalls. “Shortly after that, I read a statement squashing the story about him bullying us out of the family.
I couldn’t believe it. No one had asked me permission to put my name to a statement like that. I rang M and I told her and she burst into floods of tears. Because within four hours they were happy to lie to protect my brother. And yet for three years, they were never willing, to tell the truth, to protect us.”
We cannot say that the Palace didn’t know what will be coming their way after the documentary aired. They prepared themselves for the second volume of the docu-series after the trailer came out. In it, Meghan Markle claims that the Palace leaked negative stories about her to the press. Her claims are that the Royal family went into full ‘war against Meghan Markle’.
At the moment, there is no official statement from Kensington Palace about the documentary. There is no comment on the accusations against Prince William. The remaining part of the royal family seems to be fairly united in these moments. They arrived at Kate Middleton’s Christmas concert at Westminster Abbey together. King Charles, Queen Consort Camilla, William and Kate, George and Charlotte, there are photos of all of them together in the center of the concert.
In the fifth episode of the docuseries, Prince Harry speaks about making his decision to leave the royal family. The statement that he gave enraged the royal fans. It appears that Prince Harry wants to ‘sit on two chairs’. He wants to step back as senior royal but wants to keep his title and some of his duties. Furthermore, it is fairly difficult to have duties in the UK when you live in the USA.
“I went in with the same proposal that we’d already made public. But once I got there, they gave me five options – one being all in, no change, and five being all out. I chose option three in the meeting – half in, half out. Have our own jobs but also work in support of the Queen.” – Prince Harry recalled. “It became very clear very quickly that goal was not up for discussion or debate.
It was terrifying to have my brother scream and shout at me. And my father say things that just simply weren’t true. And my grandmother, you know, quietly sit there and take it all in. But you have to understand that. From the family’s perspective, especially from hers, there are ways of doing things. Her ultimate, sort of, mission, goal/responsibility is the institution.”
Prince Harry reveals that he didn’t exit from that meeting with a solution. However, he blames the people around the Queen for it.
“People around her are telling her everything. ‘By the way, that proposal, or these two doing X,Y, Z is going to be seen as an attack on the institution.” – Prince Harry told. “The meeting finished without any solidified action plan.”
