During the AEW World Trios Championship tournament, RUSH realised he can no longer trust his brother Dragon Lee as a partner. His heart was too pure. Instead, he’s now brought Dralistico to the United States with him, with them making their debut here tonight against the high speed duo of Blake Christian & AR Fox. With Preston Vance & Jose The Assistant in their corner, La Faccion Ingobernable is looking dangerous.
La Faccion Ingobernable Get Beat In Shocking Fashion
Dralistico would kick things off with Christian, grabbing a tight wrist lock before moving into a headlock. Christian would be able to shove him off before hitting a set of arm drags before a headscissor takedown from Dralistico leading to Christian landing on his feet. A handshake was offered by Christian, but Dralisitico would respond with a forearm smash.
Fox & RUSH would hit the ring, trading chops in the middle of the ring – with RUSH winning out with a forearm smash. Christian would get the tag and take a heavy shot himself before being thrown around at ringside. RUSH would whip Christian with the camera cables before choking him with them. Dralistico would meanwhile hit a powerbomb onto the steel steps to Fox.
Back in the ring, RUSH would tease The Bulls Horns, but instead hit a mocking kick to the face. LFI would isolate Christian for some running splashes before a double dropkick. Fox would hit the ring with a slingblade to Dralistico before tripping up RUSH near the ropes before a shotgun dropkick. Two massive dives over the top rope would follow, with a third for good measure before a Swanton Leg Drop for a two count on Dralistico.
Christian would dive into a backbreaker from RUSH, as Fox would be dropped by Dralistico. Christian would make the save with a 450 Splash before a Springboard Spanish Fly and 450 Splash for the victory. After the bell, LFI did not take the loss lightly and would beat down Fox & Christian at ringside including two chair shots to the head of Fox before walking away with their heads held high.
Bad Blood Runs Deep Between Champion & Challenger
For months now, Athena has been showing a new edge to her in-ring style, trying to draw ROH Women’s World Champion Mercedes Martinez out from a three month layoff. Attacking AEW referee Aubrey Edwards would finally accomplish this for Athena, and the match is now official. Since leaving WWE, Athena has not been able to win a title – despite challenging for the TBS & AEW Women’s World Championships. Their history dates back to the Shimmer promotion, and they won’t be holding any punches here tonight.
This match would start in expected fashion, with Martinez throwing some stiff strikes at Athena. They’d trade blows in the middle of the ring, with Athena dropping Martinez with a forearm smash before some clubbing blows to the spine. Martinez would be on the ropes, before a backhand smash rocked her.
Brainbuster would be blocked, with Martinez hitting a spinebuster in response. STF would be applied by Martinez in the middle of the ring, with Athena breaking free with a yank of the hair. Spider German Suplex would be set up in the corner, with Athena holding on and fighting to land a powerbomb. Martinez was thrown to the mat with a front suplex before a superkick.
Athena Gets The Win She’s Been Needing For Months
She’d come back with a series of suplexes to Athena would set up the brainbuster for a near fall. Reverse Cloverleaf Hold would be applied, with Athena slipping out and sending Martinez into the middle rope in the process. Martinez would be shoved into the barricade at ringside, but was able to avoid a shotgun dropkick. Anarchist Suplex would follow, nearly getting Martinez a count out victory.
Back into the ring, Athena would try for a roll up for a two count before almost ending up in the Brass City Sleeper but blocking by biting Martinez to get free. Pop Up Powerbomb was unable to end things, before Martinez was hit with a shotgun dropkick into an exposed corner of the ring before The O-Face for the victory.
Athena ended the reign of Mercedes Martinez at 220 days, and this was huge for her career. She was able to win in her hometown, in front of her parents, and beating someone she’s historically had issues with. Who can possibly stop Athena as ROH Women’s World Champion?
