When it comes to the history of monster heels in WWE, few struck fear into the hearts of fans like “The Samoan Bulldozer” Umaga. Formerly known as Jamal of Three Minute Warning, it was once he doned tribal face paint and won the WWE Intercontinental Championship that he would carve out a memorable path in WWE. A member of the Anoa’i family, his legacy is still felt today as his nephew Solo Sikoa has begun using his finishing move – The Samoan Spike, having taken out Elias & Matt Riddle with the move recently.
Triple H Pitched For Solo Sikoa To Start Using The Finisher Of Umaga
While speaking with Joseph Staszewski of the New York Post, The Enforcer of The Bloodline would reveal who pitched the idea for Sikoa to pull a page out of the playbook of his uncle.
“The idea came from Triple H. Hunter pulled me aside. I think it was Paul Heyman’s idea, too, so Hunter wanted to run it by me. He goes, ‘I know your uncle was a big part of your guys’ family. I know what he meant to you guys. I wanted to ask you if you would be OK using the spike?’ I was like, I don’t know. I kind of want to stay away from it because that’s his thing.
He was like, ‘I know he passed away and yesterday was his anniversary,’ which was a Sunday and the next day was Raw. He goes, ‘I think it will be cool if you pay a tribute to him on TV by using the spike.’ I was like, ‘You know what man? Yeah, let’s do it.’ Once he said that I kind of got emotional. I was like, wow. For those who don’t remember who Umaga was, now I’m about to refresh their memory. It was a pretty cool moment for me to pay tribute to him.”
Sikoa intends to keep using The Samoan Spike as a finisher moving forward, after previously using a flying body splash for the duration of his run in WWE NXT. Umaga tragically passed away in 2009 at the age of 36. Fans are hoping to see him placed into the Hall of Fame in the coming years.
