Earlier this year, we saw the professional wrestling debut of Paige Van-Zant, with her competing at AEW Double Or Nothing 2022. She was linked to the American Top Team faction, but would not appear following this event – leaving many to wonder what her AEW status is. Add in reports of VanZant wanting PPV level money to appear on AEW Dynamite and her skipping training sessions with industry veteran Gangrel, and many felt she was already done – but Tony Khan would like her to come back.
Tony Khan Wants Paige VanZant Back In An AEW Ring
While appearing on Fightful’s Grapsody podcast, Khan would be asked about the AEW status of VanZant, and he would have the following to say.
“Paige VanZant is very talented and commands a big dollar figure, but I’m also very interested in that. Paige VanZant, I would like at some point to come back. I really like Paige VanZant — she’s awesome. And I love Dan Lambert.”
Later in the same podcast appearance, he confirmed that he didn’t hire VanZant to simply be a one off, but also said that the opponents would have to fit the style of the former UFC fighter. VanZant with her current skill level couldn’t simply be put in the ring with anyone and make things work. She needs to work with top level talents, with a match against someone like Hikaru Shida or Jamie Hayter making the most sense, due to their similarly hard hitting styles.
A Busy Name In An Always Evolving Division
ZanVant is also someone who has a lot going on in her professional life, working in MMA, being a Bare Knuckle Boxing fighter and also doing modelling work. While she brings in some name value to the table, her busy schedule and high asking price makes you wonder if she is worth the trouble for AEW.
As they grow the division with major names like Saraya and potentially Sasha Banks, build up names like Jamie Hayter, Athena & Willow Nightingale, you have to wonder if there is even a place for VanZant on the roster by mid-2023.
