Many fans look at a WWE superstar going back to NXT as a demotion. I don’t though. NXT is a place that underutilized talent can get television time, fresh match ups, and work on their characters. Someone who could use one or more of these is Mustafa Ali.
Why Should Mustafa Ali Want to Go to NXT?
Well, to put it simply, Mustafa Ali has not been able to gain and maintain steam on the main roster. It looks like they want to do something with him but the fans just aren’t biting.
Yes, everyone recognizes that he is a great talent in the ring, but with as much talent that is in wrestling today, its more surprising if you aren’t a great wrestler than if you are.
Mustafa Ali’s greatest chance came when he was suppose to be the challenger to Daniel Bryant at WrestleMania for the WWE Championship. This didn’t go through though because of an injury that he got and that place went to Kofi Kingston who went on to become WWE Champion.
After this push, it was all downhill for him and he hasn’t been able to gain any momentum.
With this being said, I think that Ali should want to go to NXT because it has shown that it is a place that can rebuild careers and give wrestlers who might have been stagnant on the main roster a boost.
Some of the people that come to mind is Cesaro, Finn Balor, Natalya, Apollo Crews, and the two biggest success stories to do this, Tyson Kidd and Mandy Rose.
I could see Ali being the next in line for this treatment but I don’t think that he will go there and be NXT champion right away.
What Would Mustafa Ali Do in NXT
I think that the best position for him on the NXT roster would be in the North American title picture and most likely North American champion at some point.
I would keep him away from the NXT Heavyweight Championship though. This is not because he doesn’t deserve it or isn’t good enough to have it, but because it does nothing for the title itself.
I think that the main thing that he needs to do in NXT is to develop an actual character and a personality. His in ring work has never been in question and he has a great look.
Something else that can be looked at with this that he would have matches with people that will eventually be called up to the main roster.
Imagine Ali vs Mello on NXT with Ali winning, Mello getting called up to Raw, winning the US Championship, and Ali returning to remind him that although he hasn’t lost recently, that he is someone that beat Mello before.
