Elon Musk decided to ask his fellow Twitterati if he should step down as the CEO of the company. He did it via a public poll on his Twitter profile.
“Should I step down as head of Twitter? I will abide by the results of this poll.” – Elon Musk wrote, giving two options for voting.
Will Elon Musk Step Down As CEO After 10 Million Twitter Users Vote That He Should?
The results came after more than 10 million users took part in the poll, the majority of whom voted against his continuation as CEO on the platform. The poll closed on Monday after 24 hours of active time and showed that 57% of Twitter users think he shouldn’t be the head of the company.
Seems like Elon Musk needed some time to process the decision. After the poll closed, he went silent. A prolific user like Elon Musk could not have remained inactive on the platform for so long.
Elon Musk broke his silence hours after the poll closed. He replied to several user suggestions that the results are altered by bots and spam accounts.
“Blue subscribers should be the only ones that can vote in policy-related polls.” – one user noted. “Good point. Twitter will make that change.” – Elon Musk replied.
Elon Musk created a massive controversy when he implemented a subscription option on Twitter. He called it Twitter blue. The subscription allows everybody to buy a blue tick verified badge that will show up on their account.
Elon Musk took Twitter private. He is the company’s sole owner, and as such, he has the right to make any change he thinks of. Nobody can force Elon Musk out. However, everybody can quit Twitter. And many accounts are doing so. Elon Musk forced even some of his closest supporters to break ties with him with his unreasonable behavior.
One of the recent unpopular things that Elon Musk took is the ban of an account that followed his private jet. The ‘free world’ met the decision with criticism. Journalists and outlets started publishing stories about him, suggesting he becomes what he once despised.
A user posted a link to the profile that shares information about Elon’s jet from another platform. Elon Musk reacted quickly and banned that account as well. He made a policy almost immediately after that, not allowing users to share links from other platforms on Twitter. Elon Musk banned Instagram, Facebook, and some minor platforms such as Nostr, and Linktree.
However, after a short time, Elon Musk reverted the changes. “Going forward, there will be a vote for major policy changes. My apologies. Won’t happen again.” – Elon Musk apologized for the impulsive reaction.
Even though Elon Musk uses Twitter polls for making major decisions on the platform, he somehow gives the notion that he already made up his mind to do the change regardless. He sold 10% of his Tesla shares, but has announced it much earlier than running the poll. He reinstated Donald Trump on the platform but has conspired to do it since long ago.
That’s how he already told a judge at Delaware that he would find ‘someone to run Twitter for him’ as he plans to reduce his time at the social media company.
