WWE has a social following that is absolutely insane and not only do they have a network of wrestlers that are ready to blast out any promo for any show at a moment’s notice, but also multiple accounts across more than five different social media sites. They had over a billion subscribers on social media three years ago. With this being said, they are finally leveraging their social media power to do something great.
WWE Digital Exclusive
While this isn’t something that came out recently, it is something that has recently been getting more attention.
Since we were young, we always had the same questions about wrestling. What do the wrestlers do backstage or on their days off? What are they doing for a whole week after getting beat down last week?
Well, recently, WWE has been using their social media power to push out their digital exclusives and if you follow them on twitter or some of their other social media platforms, you can see or get alerted about when these come out.
These are simple things like backstage looks and interviews with the wrestlers without the pressure of being recorded live. They can do as many takes as they need to look the best that they can.
This is good because many of the wrestlers on WWE’s roster, like Ricochet and Ali, aren’t the best promos in the business. These digital exclusives give some of the wrestlers that WWE would never give promo time, a place to gain the confidence to do them.
Also, they have recently been using their digital exclusives to advance storylines and to evolve wrestler’s character. This past Thanksgiving, we saw Dominic Mysterio and Rhea Ripley visit Rey during family dinner, bust into the house, and beat the crap out of an injured Rey Mysterio.
Not to sound like a bad guy, but it was great. The next night on Friday Night Smackdown, they even brought it up and put over how bad Dominic is for doing this.
To me, this is how every company should be using their social media. Promoting their wrestlers, upcoming events, and promos or segments that don’t make it to television.
Both WWE and AEW have way more social media follows than they have viewers of their television products. Use social media to give fans and potential fans a reason to tune in and watch the television shows.
