Action Andretti was able to score the biggest win in his professional wrestling career – when he was able to defeat Chris Jericho on AEW Dynamite in 2022. Since then, Jericho has been determined to get revenge. He already threw a fireball at Andretti, and tonight turns Red Death against him – as Daniel Garica looks to stretch Andretti into submission. Garcia will also earn a tag team match on AEW Dynamite with a win, where he could team with Chris Jericho to face Ricky Starks & Andretti.
Everything Announced For AEW Dynamite
Before we get to tonight’s main event – we would get a run down of the matches and segments set for next week’s episode of AEW Dynamite.
Bryan Danielson vs. Brian Cage – Danielson MUST WIN to get his title shot against MJF at AEW Revolution.
Matt Hardy & Ethan Page vs. Jack Perry & HOOK
Darby Allin vs. Buddy Matthews with the TNT Championship on the line, marking Allin’s fourth title defence since claiming the belt from Samoa Joe on January 4th.
Toni Storm vs. Ruby Soho vs. Britt Baker
The Acclaimed & Gunn Club go to family therapy with Billy Gunn
Ricky Starks & Action Andretti vs. Chris Jericho & Sammy Guevara (or Daniel Garcia)
It’s looking like another big episode – continuing a streak of great episodes in 2023 so far.
Daniel Garcia Lets His Roughneck Side Out
Andretti, despite being fresh in AEW, looked just as at home in the main event slot as Garcia. He’d be attacked before the bell, with Garcia rushing in before Andretti even got his entrance vest off. Andretti would manage a back handspring elbow to comeback against Garcia, before some heavy chops in the corner.
Garcia would be dropped with the flying headscissor, and was near enough to the ropes to hit a springboard tornillo. Andretti would be driven out to the floor, with Garcia driving Andretti into the barricade and steel steps. Garica is at his best when he shows his psychotic side – and he was letting loose tonight.
Andretti would take a stiff elbow to the face, before Garcia would bite his forehead in the corner. A bear hug in the corner would fail to accomplish much, but Andretti would be unable to fly before being hung up on the top rope. He’d tumble into a snap Butterfly Suplex, with Garcia showing his technical skills before a brutal kick to the side of the face.
Action Andretti Proves His First Win Wasn’t A Fluke
Jericho on commentary hated that he couldn’t deny Andretti beat him – while taking pleasure in the work of Garcia. Andretti would manage a backbreaker into neckbreaker, before the Split Legged Moonsault. The handspring back elbow smash would be blocked into a rear naked choke, with Andretti able to shift into a pinfall – forcing Garcia to break the hold.
Pop up neckbreaker would follow, getting a near fall. Andretti would look for a flying forearm, but was cut out of the air with a forearm smash. Garcia would show some frustrations in being unable to take Andretti out, and the Dragon Tamer was blocked into a pinfall. Andretti would roll to his feet and into a crosschop, but stayed in the fight. Springboard tornillo was followed by the running Shooting Star Press – and Andretti gets another HUGE victory.
You can’t even call this one an upset victory. Action Andretti is here to stay in AEW, and has massive star potential. We’re already seeing comparisons to the earlier careers of Will Ospreay or Kenny Omega with Andretti, and if he gets the proper guidance – might well find himself in even bigger main events as his career progresses.
