With reports of the WWE agreeing in principle to sell to Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, there’s been plenty of action on social media as fan has shared their anger and dismay, to news of Stephanie McMahon resigning from the WWE and Vince McMahon taking back control.
While it’s still early and we take all of the reports with a grain of salt until the WWE publicly states the sale agreement is done.
Dave Meltzer Believes Vince McMahon Started Talking with Saudi Arabia When he Resigned from WWE
We’re only in the first hours of a months long endeavor as it generally takes four to six months for a publicly traded company to be sold and go private.
Not only do the shareholders have to be bought out, but the SEC will want to monitor things, and with Saudi Arabia being accused of sports washing their history of women and humanitarian abuse.

While this may look like the beginning, Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio said McMahon started talking to the Saudis about this deal when he was ousted from his CEO position in WWE.

“The one thing we do know about this story is that ever since was ousted, he did open up talks with the Saudis. So this didn’t come in the last week and his coming back was obviously to close a deal that perhaps the people who are running the company for all the reasons we’re talking about probably felt very uneasy about the deal closing because they’re perhaps looking out for the long-term [future] of the company and their own a**es too as well. That’s another layer.”
Like everything else with this deal, we’re taking Melter’s declaration with a grain of salt until it’s corroborated by other sources.
We don’t doubt him, but with so many moving parts going on currently, it’s hard to lock in on what’s factual and what could be a “controlled” leak to test the waters.
Given how there isn’t much in the way of positive reactions to this news and how McMahon forced his way back into the company and allegedly threatened to cripple it financially by not agreeing to any media deals unless he got the power back he wanted.
This is going to be a fun ride before it’s all over, and we have a feeling there’s plenty more new to come that may or may not prove the current speculation right.
