In recent times, Joe Rogan became a well-known figure in social media and in the entertainment industry. This is partly thanks to his podcast The Joe Rogan Experience through which he is reaching a massive number of people in the world.
Joe Rogan presents himself as a friend of Twitter and Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Throughout recent years he has been a strong supporter of Elon Musk’s decisions. However, Elon Musk’s most recent controversial decision to ban his jet-tracking account on Twitter may spark the first disagreement between the two.
Joe Rogan Reacts To Elon Musk Banning His Jet Tracking Account
In December, Twitter suspended several of Jack Sweeney’s Twitter accounts. The reason behind the ban is Jack’s constant tweeting about Elon Musk’s jet location. Something that highly bothered the billionaire. According to Elon Musk, the constant information leak about his whereabouts presented a major breach of privacy and potential safety risk.
However, this might counter with his views on ‘absolute free speech’. Finally, Elon Musk is the one that boasted about absolute free speech before buying the social media company.
Joe Rogan gave his take on the situation in a conversation with the comedian Brian Simpson on a recent episode of the Joe Rogan Experience podcast. The podcaster referred to the decision to ban Sweeney’s accounts as weird and ‘not the right thing to do’.
Joe Rogan’s guest, Brian Simpson had a somewhat different opinion on the situation. He opposed the podcaster and branded the jet tracking account ‘creepy and weird’.
“What is the point? He said he started to do it because he was a fan of Elon’s.” – Joe Rogan noticed.
The popularity of Elon’s jet Twitter account skyrocketed after the billionaire took notice of it and offered Sweeney to delete the account in an exchange for $5000. Sweeney counter-offered to delete it for $50 000, and Elon Musk decided to not reply to his messages anymore.
“Elon, you gotta make an offer they can’t refuse.” – Brian Simpson joked about the failed negotiation.
“Here’s the problem: how does this prevent other people from doing the exact same thing and doing the same thing and trying to get more money?” – Rogan asked. “Where does it end? Like if that’s an industry now, tracking Elon’s jet?”
“But is it a mistake for him because it’s getting him a lot of attention? People are paying attention to it. He might be able to monetize it. It’s weird though. It’s definitely weird and I would not like it at all. I don’t think it’s a nice thing to do.” – Joe Rogan put himself in Elon Musk’s position.
Jack Sweeney on the other hand brands Elon Musk a ‘full-on hypocrite’ for banning his accounts. He considers it to be unfair when Elon Musk is the one who was speaking and publicly committing to free speech.
However, one needs to ask himself, where is the line between absolute free speech and breach of privacy? Aren’t these two totally different things? While free speech is expressing yourself freely, sharing information about someone’s whereabouts is a major breach of privacy.
