It is not a rare occasion for Kim Kardashian to take advantage of her massive platform and her influence to raise awareness about the conditions in American prisons. She often expresses her concern about the living conditions of the people who are in prison. However, her main goal with this is to try and force bettering the prison system conditions.
Kim Kardashian Wants To Reform The American Prison System – Or Does She Want To Stay Relevant By Filming Herself Helping Prisoners?
We all know that the prison system in America needs improvements. However, what Kim Kardashian strives for is total reform. The United States of America has the highest incarceration rate in the world. There are more than 2.5 million people in prisons throughout the states. This number is a result of many factors. According to Kim Kardashian harsh sentencing laws, racial disparities, and lack of reentry programs are the major factors.
Kardashian has been particularly vocal about the mental effects the prison has on inmates. She advocates for changes to laws that impose mandatory minimum sentences for certain crimes. Kim Kardashian argues that these laws don’t allow judges to consider the unique circumstances of each case.
Kim Kardashian recently re-visited her project for bettering the prison conditions, spent a day at Pelican Bay State Prison in Crescent, CA. During her time there she spoke to inmates and acquired data about life in the facility. She focused mostly on the mental well-being of the inmates and tried to understand their mindset and ways to cope with their time in prison.
The actors Tobey Maguire and Scott Budnick accompanied the reality show star Kim Kardashian on her ‘adventure’. Budnick is the executive producer of the Hangover movie franchise.
And this is where the situation gets a little bit salty. The trio that allegedly wants to help the inmates and get an insight into their surroundings had a camera crew with them. Scott Budnick is in filming ‘documentaries’ for quite some time now, and so it happens that his most recent documentary was exactly about teenagers in prison.
While Kim Kardashian tries to convince people that she does this with the sole purpose of helping the inmates, she disguises her rear intentions to promote herself additionally and remain in the limelight.
Finally, we all know that the American prison system is in need of reforms. And something good might come out of all this. Aside from Kim Kardashian’s charade for the prisoners at the Pelican Bay State Prison, she might actually draw someone’s attention to what needs doing to better the conditions in prisons across America.
