Kota Ibushi Speaks On Chance Of Golden Lovers Reunion In AEW With Kenny Omega

When it comes to long term storytelling in professional wrestling, it’s hard to look past the saga of The Golden Lovers. The team of Kenny Omega & Kota Ibushi have proven that the best partners make the best rivals, having some of the best matches in professional wrestling both as partners and opponents. They last met in NJPW in 2018, before Omega left to form All Elite Wrestling, and Ibushi became one of the top stars in NJPW – and fans are still waiting for the next chapter to take form.

Kota Ibushi Talks Golden Lovers Reunion

While speaking with Dark Puroresu Flowsion, Kota Ibushi would be asked about his thoughts on a potential Golden Lovers reunion, as his New Japan Pro Wrestling contract comes to an end – and his shoulder is nearly back to 100%.

“I guess it depends on the current unstable WWE situation and other factors regarding that, but not while Kenny Omega is currently continuing to rise in New Japan Pro Wrestling. Will he drop the belt and go to AEW or where? Neither he nor I know. One thing I do know is that (1) I will be back. (2) How much I can move. (3) I don’t know if it will be this year, but I have a picture of it in my mind in the near future as much as possible. Actually. So I hope Golden Lover fans will wait for me. That’s about all I can say.

Should Kenny continue to appear for New Japan once he loses the belt, then I don’t think we’re going to be able to wrestle together. However, he should be under a contract with AEW that gives him more freedom. So I think, depending on when his timing and my timing overlap, then there is a possibility that we will tag. There are still more problems with that, and I don’t want to tag with him if it’s not the right situation to do so. Because the tag team with him is more special to me than anything. I think it will finally take shape once the time when we should wrestle together, the conditions under which we should wrestle, our respective physical conditions, all of that has come together.”

Ibushi Could Be The Next Huge AEW Signing

Ibushi has been out of action since the finals of the G1 Climax in 2021, where he broke his shoulder during his match with Kazuchika Okada. He felt NJPW tried to force him back into the ring before he was ready, a move which greatly harmed the relationship between Ibushi & NJPW. As he approaches an in-ring return, it seems likely he either signs a contract with All Elite Wrestling, or joins CyberFight – enabling him to show up in both Pro Wrestling NOAH & DDT going forward.

A wrestling fan practically since birth, who has been hooked since he got his first toy wrestling ring for Christmas as a child. Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
